So we have healthy whales getting harpooned and suffering horrendous deaths .Defective whales in the Darwinian sense again suffering horrendous deaths so the dogooders can pat themselves on the back ( endangered species the exception ).Why can't they harvest beached whales ?

Just because a species cannot handle predation by advanced military style cruisers firing grenade tipped harpoons at their pregnant females, does not make them defective in the Darwinian sense. I cannot think of an aquatic species on earth that could deal with such an onslaught, especially if they have a low reproductive rate.

If the Japanese Fisheries Agency could harvest beached whales, they would set about systematically driving every last whale on the planet onto a beach. Their track record in such matters is horrific :(

.Defective in the Darwinian sense I meant the whales that beach themselves . Whether their sonar hasn't finished evolving or their herding bond is to strong .Beached whales getting crushed under their own weight seems horrible to me as opposed  to a very high powered rifle to the brain .Possibly whale meat being sold to them from other countries reducing or stopping that dolphin carnage . Culture and egos involved so a big hurdle there . I remember a tv program showing they had quite a bit of surplus meat because demand was quite low for consumption . No doubt logistics would be challenging as well .
