I use this stuff. Not quite sand and not quite gravel. I like the extra weight of it. It doesn't get blown around the tank or siphoned out with water changes.

For a 4ft tank you would want about 8kg.

Product is: Pisces Aquarium Gravel - Diamond Black. About $40 for 10kg bag.

I have about 80KG of krystal black sand that I removed from my 6x2.5x2.5 about a month ago, it did have trumpet snails in it. If you want some ill sell it to you for $20 per 10kg.

No worries, if it's overrun by snails getting a snail eating fish is a better option. No amount of cleaning and gravel changing will get rid of trumpet snails, believe me I've tried as have many others :)

Has anyone tried liquid carbon (glut) dosing to get rid of them? I thought when I was dosing that it helped gradually get rid of them but idk. Might of been something else.
