Hi all,

i made this water changer today. I made sure the end faced slightly upward, this way when i put the water back into the tank it wont disturb the substrate. I also made the length of the down pipe so that it does around a 40% water change on my tank and no more. I used silicon for the parts in tank, and PVC cement on parts out of the water. When i want a water change, i just hook up the hose and open the valve and it flows out on its own (obviously the very first time you use it you have to suck it your self, but after that, once you have filled the tank, before disconnecting hose just shut the valve and the water will lock itself in the pipe.
Let me know what you think

I made this because i work 5 weeks on/5 weeks off and in the 5 weeks on my partner isnt greatly fond of the possibility of getting a taste of fish water.
Cheers
Brad

They say necessity is the mother of inventions and it sure feels good when you come up with a satisfactory outcome. 10 points for thinking Brad, don't always have to go to the shop.
My setup isn't as auto as yours but serves me well. I have a valve and connection pieces to a pump at one end an a hose at the other. Just bring it in the house, connect to the pump and away she goes outside to water some plants, down to a mark on the side of the tank. Refill, too easy. This forum is invaluable as my setup was the result of the good folks on this forum when I had walking issues, made water changing a breeze.

Well done Brad

If you don't want to suck, turn the tap on as if you are filling then turn off the tap and disconnect the hose. The hose changes from high to low pressure and forms a syphon. To stop close the tap plug in the hose and fill.

it was moreso made so that when filling, my missus could be sure not to disturb the gravel as well.
