Hi there,

I just wanted to share my photo of my Bristlenose babies! The eggs were laid on the floor of the tank. I put them in the sieve and stuck an airstone underneath and here they all are approx 6 days later!!!

They are all out of the sieve now and turning brown. Approx 100 or so.

Cheers
Claire

PS I hope this uploading thing works!!! My first proud post!

Claire, they are beautiful babies! biggrin.gif

I am pretty new to catfish and have got a tank full of bristlenose and peppermints, most look to be breeding age.

To hatch your babies, did you say that you put a sieve over a airstone? Sounds like a great idea (I am used to mouthbrooders). Is there any other way to hatch them out?

Congratulations again Claire,

Bon

Hi Bon,

Yep I just got a normal old kitchen sieve and scooped the eggs up and then attached it to the top of the tank with pegs and paper clips!! Then the airstone was underneath approx 50cm below! I looked everyday and you can see this little glow in the eggs and then the blood vessels begin the develop. It is amazing!
Best of luck with your breeding, esp your peppermints! I don't know of any other way to hatch them out, I think the male should do it in his cave but for some reason mine have laid on the floor and then if left they will probably go mouldy, they need quite a bit of water movement over them I think.

Thanks Dazza! cool.gif

Cheers,
Claire

Just curious... does the lights on affect the eggs being hatched (if I did the same setup the seive would sit just under the lights)?

Congrats! Although I only have the common bristlenoses, I love them and it's great to see them breed. I must say I am extremely surprised that they laid the eggs on the floor and not in a cave or somewhere sheltered. Just goes to show that anything can happen!
Hope they all grow up healthy

Congratulations on the spawn and the clever way you managed to save the eggs and allow them to develop. For me this is the most addictive part of the hobby, the breeding and watching the young develop into adult fish.

Thanks everyone for all the comments and feedback, very much appreciated!

Bon, my sieve was not directly underneath the light, probably about 10cm away, but you could always give it a go.... and let us know how you get on!

Cheers,
Claire
