This is my second planted tank, hopefully it will turn out nicer than the first one. This is a 60l tank that will be for a betta and hopefully some MTW. The driftwood is the star in the tank, and I have a rough plan as to how to complement it with plants but no plants just yet. Will be moderately planted with CO2 injection. So without further ado;

Saw this piece of driftwood and had to have it. It's been soaking a couple of weeks. I'd leave it a couple more weeks but I just bought a new betta pair and need some tank space!

Always a bonus not having to beg borrow or steal stockings if you have your own. Leftover gravel from a cheap tank buy.

Now to let the tank settle and cough up for some plants :)

I wish I had seen this an hour ago before I filled up my new planted tank.. Great idea with the stockings filled with gravel.

Look forward to some progress shots.

STocking idea is awesome, it would save so much money on buying that black sand.

I predict some stockings will be disappearing out of drawers soon lol

Put my order in for stock for this tank plus two 30l tanks:

6 x Finke Gobies going into this tank

15 x Darwin Red-nose shrimp

10 x Chameleon shrimp

Nymphaea nouchali as a feature plant

Hairgrass for the background

Pogostemon stellatus

Vallisneria nana

Pennywort for the foreground

Plus my new dumbo betta breeding pair and some red MTW :)

Looks nice!

I like the scape, what filtration have you got for the 60L?

So my original plant plan isn't going to happen, even the natives are going to get pureed across the border it appears! That should have been fine, but no time to plan a new layout as my betta arrive today apparently! A quick trip down to Aquotix to scrounge for plants and a few bits and pieces to split my CO2 into the new tank.

Here's what I came back with:

A pot of Lilaeopsis brasiliensis (Brazilian micro sword)

A nice Echinodorus horizontalis (Horizontalis sword)

Hygrophila corymbosa (Narrow leaf giant hygro)

Hairgrass (want dwarf but that will have to wait)

Narrow leaf val

More blyxa japonica as well

and picking up some hydrocotyle sp japan (pennywort) today

So here's the mess today. Not happy with the layout but got the plants in and will decide on an arrangement over the new few days (ideas welcome). Planning to pick up some pebbles to decorate and make hidey holes for the gobies arriving next week.

Meet Fabio, he's going in my 30l tank. Nigel has moved into his bigger digs in this tank with his loach buddies, will grab some decent pics tonight.

Having some trouble with my CO2 setup, the fluval 88 is not turning off completely, second unit to do it. The 3 way adaptor I bought to split the CO2 between tanks have separate valves that don't appear to turn off completely either, and the diffuser for the new tank leaks out the side, second one to do that too. End result is no CO2 in the tanks for the last few days and a nearly empty bottle.

I was thinking to upgrade the disposable to a 1 litre with an adaptor for the 88 but as this is the second one to shit itself, might just bite the bullet and go to a proper valve and solenoid. when the shop opens tomorrow will see what we can do.

Tank is just brewing algae already, can see it on the glass.

CO2 back up and running after some great help at Aquotix :D

And I just received word that my gobies and native shrimp have been shipped too! My EI ferts should come this week too. It looks like a good week! :)

Would love to buy something to remove the tannins staining the water but I've chewed up my fish budget this month so I will just have to learn to love the look for a while longer.

The shrimp look like aquatic mosquitoes.
I love the variety of occupants you have there! Certainly not the usual suspects. Very cool.

The shrimp are super cool, they are both natives too! I have some video footage that I'll compile and put up when I have time.
