All depends on how much air you need to pump. The Eheim air pump 400 I have is the quietest I have owned and used to run a few sponges.

Tim...where did you get your airpump and can remember the cost? How many outlets does it have and what is it's capacity and wattage?

One that's unplugged laugh.gif I have a Mercedes 4 outlet airpump that I bought in Tassie about 10yrs ago, have never replaced a diaphragm and it is as quiet as a mouse. Never seen them since though. sad.gif

Andrea, I got it a while back, the model number is 3704 but it says Eheim 400 on the pack. 400l/h, two outlets that can be individually regulated, 4W. I paid $80 for it at Aquotix. 3 yr warranty as usual.

Do you remember where you got yours from?

A mate of mine in Tassie owned a hydroponics shop and had them there, I might have to give him a call and find out if he remembers the supplier.
They were cheap for a 4 outlet, Around $80 back then.

I bought mine at Pet Magic when I was the manager there...would have been about 10 years ago too. Possibly they came from Allpets??

Why has nobody mentioned Schego airpumps? They are brilliant, quiet, have cheap replacement parts and they look great too.....German made with a 2 year warranty.

Dont over look them, worth every cent and will out compare and out last Eheim airpumps any day.

Have the same air pump and find it fantastic.
I also purchased mine over 10years ago and have only recently lost one of the diaphragms in it.

Wanted another one just like it but can't find them anywhere or even info on the pump on the net.
Shame though, fantastic pump.

Always going to be the case with Aquarium gear though Tim.....Cost a lot more to outlay initially but with their reliability and quiet operation (The two main things people want and constantly ask for) then that justifies the cost in my opinion.

That and i like trying out every piece of equipment I can get my hands on.....I was using Schegos in my bedroom at one point....nice and quiet.

If you want an airpump that is:
1) quiet (for the whole life of the unit, not just the first few months)
2) and will continue to provide the same pressure/output for the life of the unit (not just the first few months)
3) and you can be guaranteed to get parts for the life of your fish keeping bug (not just the life of the pump - then the importer changes brands and no longer supports the original brand)
4) and ALL the parts are available, not just diaphrams......
5) and any Aquarium specialist LFS can get parts in
6) and will last many, many years.... making it value for money....

Go Schego

Schego website - first 4 models are available

So Oliver what in your opinion on your list does NOT apply to the Eheim air pumps? Just curious smile.gif
