The topic for the November meeting will be "An Introduction to Marine Aquariums".

The talk will be performed by representives from MASWA (Marine Aquarium Society of WA).

This will be a perfect opportunity to get a feel for what is required to build and maintain a salt water tank.

Feel free to list your questions here prior to the night.

Necessary equipment, differences in maintenance to freshwater, basic setup cost, good starter fish/corals, difficulty of breeding marine species...just to start off with smile.gif

So far it's Shona Whaite & Chris Stevens. There may be more.

Has a date been decided yet dazza? I work some crazy hours so hope i can make this one.

I really want to setup my first marine tank, so any info on how to do so, for dummies would be awesome laugh.gif

How to cycle a marine tank, when to add first fish, how many fish, how to introduce fish and corals and care for corals. Expense and maintainance.

Any info that can be past on via this medium would be appreciated as always.

There have been pics from auctions if I remember correctly. Video is usually only from special events, we do have a video from the Heiko talk and the talk Docfish gave. Both are still unedited and Sazabi has them.

Thanks to the speakers for a good intro into the requirements for keeping marine aquariums.

It would certainly be a cure for multi tank syndrome as there wouldn't be the time or dollars to maintain lots of saltwater tanks ! blink.gif

Very interesting talk.

Cheers

If anyone's doing some Marine research I recommend MASAWiki aka RTAW Reefpedia

It's interesting what someone who's never had a freshie tank thinks we know, but it was nice to see Shona and Chris at a PCS meeting. Chris' setup did sound pretty pricey though, with the underground pipework and the RO/DI units etc.
