Mate it kind of depends on which malawi and which tang. Most malawis will be fine but some of the tangs get a bit sensitive. Plus depends if you want to breed or not too

Well those are all malawis, what sort of tangs were you looking at?
I'd suggest if you want a display tang in that tank, maybe go for a medium sized Neolamprologus eg. brichardi, leleupi, cylindricus, tretocephalus or some Julidiochromis, Chalinochromis species.
These guys will like the same rocky setup as the malawis you've got, are probably the most hardiest tangs you can get and can be quite attractive. I've kept most of those suggested with malawis at some stage and for the most part they ignore each other. Substrate spawning tangs typically only show aggression to conspecifics unless trying to breed so make sure you don't end up with a pair in the tank otherwise there will be some fierce competition for territory.

I understand that some species of fish have water perameters that need to be met and certain fish outsize others...
I appreciate everyones comments and input, so I reckon im guna give it a go.

I Agree with this also, you must be tuned in to your tank and be able to read the signs ,to nip any problems in the butt early. cheers steve
