Define cheap? :)

LFS price can vary.

You would be looking at $15 each at the chain stores like Better Pets n Gardens, but half that price (maybe even less) from stores Like Vebas or Aquotix. I remember buying 10 of them for about $6 each, but that was over 12 months back. Very pretty fish, and I find them to be much hardier than Neon Tetras.

I bought mine from Aquotix about 3 months ago at $7 each (or 3 for $18). Very healthy and all are doing well.

I don't know if anybody is breeding them privately as they are supposed to be very difficult to breed in capivity.

Ask a lfs if they will do a deal for you if you buy bulk. I just purchased 40 @ $4 each
Alternatively, you can try livefish.com.au

Get a price from Pacco at Vebas.

Be sure to mention the quantity you're after and you may be surprised :)

I bought 20 from Vebas a few months ago and very happy with quality and price.

Mine aren't for sale though :)

Unwanted cardinals = old...
Live fish or new imports = fresh, young and very unstable... And very slim!

Decent LFS like Aquotix, Avid, Morley, Seaview and Vebas who care a bit more and hold onto numbers and only sell them when they are stable and suitable for sale will be able to provide value for money... Prices will vary depending on size - from 2 to 3cm... From $4 to $6ea..... $5/$6 being most common for singles and discounts apply for numbers (if numbers are currently available)
