August: A Combined Auction and Annual General Meeting

The next meeting of the Perth Cichlid Society  will be an auction on Tuesday August 5th and in preparation, we are now taking bookings for lots.

The auction will be held at the South Perth Rotary Hall in Sandgate st, as usual. Details HERE(clicky)

The doors will open before 7:30pm to start processing lots. The auction will start after the Annual general meeting where the PCS members elect a new committee. The AGM will only take perhaps 15 minutes, with the auction kicking off by 8:30

More information about the AGM and nominating for committee is available HERE (members' section link)

As the AGM will take a little of the available time, lots may be limited - first come best dressed, so get your lots in early!

Please note: no lots will be accepted into the auction after 8.00pm

BBQ and cold drinks will also be available.  We will also be holding the usual  PCS Raffle, with the a prize which will be announced in the coming days. There is no show table contest on auction nights.

*All lots must be pre-booked...with no exceptions. See below.

There are a few auction rules that all members need to be aware of:

  • All lots will be inspected on the night and any lots with deformed / unidentifiable or undersized fish will be removed.
  • All lots will now have the seller's name listed on the bag.
  • Fish bagged incorrectly will not be accepted. No sandwich bags or ziplock bags allowed. There will be a $1 charge for the re-bagging of fish
  • Please make sure your fish are adequately bagged. If they are large fish, put each in a separate bag.
  • When booking lots, please use reserve prices sparingly  for the expensive stuff. No reserves will be accepted below $20
  • When bidding on the night please remember that collection and payment of lots will only take place at the end of the auction.
  • There are no EFT facilities, so all transactions must be settled with cash.
  • At the end of the auction your lots will be collected and given to you by a committee member.
  • Only club members can sell lots at the auction but you can become one on the night. Anyone can bid/buy. General public are welcome to attend.
  • The PCS takes a 10% commission on all sales at the auction.
  • Non PCS club members pay an additional 10% of total sale price per lot.
  • The Rotary Hall is not a licensed venue and alcohol is not permitted. Anyone drinking in the hall will be asked to leave.
  • There are limited lots in the auction and fish take priority. The committee has discretion in refusing lots and reserves in the interests of balance and pacing

The main raffle prize will be an Otto PF300G canister filter, donated by our sponsors at The Age of Aquariums.

OttoPF300G_zps16be7a51.jpg

Specs -

  • 1200 lph
  • 22 watts
  • 3 stage filtration
  • 1.8m head height
  • Air bleed valve
  • Filter media
  • Beefy 25mm hose
  • 1m long spray bar kit
  • Self priming
  • Quiet and  reliable
  • 36 x 26cm plus taps etc, so quite a large filter
  • Suitable for up to 400 litres

I have a couple of these myself and they are beasts and IMHO will easily run a larger tank.

exactly what ive been thinking, fisheries wont be very talkative in the fisheries talk if they already had to show up to the auction lol

Pcs has had no correspondence from fisheries or anyone else with authority to say we cannot table shrimp at our events, so as far as I'm concerned it's perfectly fine

Do you not think it's a coincidence that they showed up after the shrimp meeting the other month?

I personally think if there was a relation to the raid after the meeting they would have made an appearance and confiscated the shrimp on the night

Yes I think it's a coincidence

Do you think fisheries would have gotten upset over 20 odd people getting together to discuss the shrimp hobby and then taken it out on a local business whilst not saying anything to the event organisers?

Anyway, I'm hoping to see more cichlids and less shrimp at auctions so the gossip and assumptions regarding fisheries may help that happen ;)
