I bought some neons from CF ages ago that brought White Spot to my tanks for the first time ever! I got rid of the white spot, didn't lose a single neon (Almost killed my big murray cod) and they are still putting around my shrimp tank today. Havent lost a single one. Mine are forced to fight the shrimp, bristle nose and Royal Whiptails among other things for a feed and all I feed them is Aussie Native pellets. I reckon once you get em healthy and in a stable system that they are tough as old boots. pH of my tanks is 8.2 as well.

I agree with you though Leif they do have a reputation of being illness prone.

Mate there is a bit of an ongoing joke on this forum about ch#*ry shrimp. It was decided in another thread a few months ago that we would refer to them as MTW's... Long story.

Found the thread:

Oh boy, that question again... Not meaning to keep passing the buck to Mr.Docfish but read this if you have nothing o do for the next 6 hours:

http://www.perthcich...imp#entry293204

Or in summary... No one really knows if we are allowed to keep them. LFS cant sell them. Lots of people keep them but everyone keeps it "Mums the word"(MTW).

Do rosy barbs mix well with neons?

Another kind of tetra that I've enjoyed in my community are Red Phantom Tetras. They provide a nice contrast in body shape/size/colour to my Cardinals and have cool personalities. I got them for this reason... they look a little like Serpae Tetras but are not nippy. They've proved pretty hardy in my tank too. They're too big for discus to eat too (mind you my discus are pretty peaceful and haven't even had a go at my cardinals).

Congo tetra's X 10ish?
Clown loach X3-4
Cuckoo catfish x2

maybe some gourami or silver sharks?

Sounds great, though I reckon Congo's are a bit over rated. I never thought they were even remotely interesting, they are biggish and aren't amazingly colorful.

BGK is a cool fish

Clown Loaches are useful, good community fish and look interesting

Cuckoos are nice.

Silver Sharks and gouramis are both nice though obviously completely different. I would go with both perhaps.

:o

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!!! Why I ought ta *shakes fist*

I have a school of 15 congo tetras in my display tank, and they are beautiful fish to watch. VERY under-rated fish. Probably the only African tetra you can buy here too.

Here's a pic of my tank:

20140305_190308_zpsl1utmu09.jpg

and the congo tetras:

20140305_185735_zpsqsk31mhh.jpg

too hard to get a decent pic of them, as they are always schooling together with the males showing off with this funky dance they do. Very cool to watch.

and some videos:

last one:

So buy some congo tetras cameron. It's not what the cool kids do, but it's different, and looks nice.

wow wish I could work out how to embed youtube videos...
