Hey guys,

decided to make a new topic as my previous one got ruined by photobucket  Figured it was sort of pointless to continue the other so decided to make a fresh start. Hope that's okay mods / admin.

I've had this 6x2x2 for around a year. It has always been an Australian native tank but has had a variety of fish, aquascapes and equipment. I'm pretty happy with where I've gotten it to, but am still messing around with the aquascape and pipework a bit. The tank has changed quite a bit since the last "major" updates so here's a bit of a summary of the tank at the moment:

Technical

Black Silicone 6x2x2

2x Nautilus 2700 + Custom black poly outlets to pass over bracing

300w Eheim Jager (Planning on switching to inline or 600w titanium)

Aquascape

6x2x1 piece of driftwood

Gin Gin river quartz mixed with a tiny bit of Carnarvon river sand

Livestock

Coal Grunter (17cm)

Sleepy Cod (30cm)

Neosilurus Ater (35cm+)

Growout

Sooty Grunter

2x Neosilurus Hyrtlii

Lately I've been making the tank look how I feel is a bit more natural looking. I've done this by adding rocks, brown sand and riparian tree leaves. Previously the tank just had white sand and the wood which everybody knows looks terrible.

I also bought some plants while I was at Vebas today (For the 4x2x2 marine journal ;))

Here are some photos taken this evening with said leaves, sand and rocks in the tank:

Leaves keep bunching up in the middle of the tank... I want them to stay spread out but then I'd have bad flow

Limnophila aromatica and Something stellata... Might be Pogostemon stellatus, can't honestly remember right now though. Currently still in pots because I couldn't be bothered planting.

Freshwater limpet.. I really need to do a water-change, they're probably feeding on the leaves too though.

You may have noticed in the photos that only one of the metal halides are on. The other side has a dodgy ballast and / or igniter.  Luckily doesn't sound like it will cost too much to replace, just a bit of a pita for now.

That's all for the start of this "continuation" journal. Keep an eye out for an update, I guess  ^_^

Hey guys,

It's been a week since I originally posted.

Over that week some of the "stellata" has grown, at a guess, 3 inches. For comparison, the leftmost plant from the first journal photo is now poking its leaves slightly out of the surface. Still need to remove them from the pots though hahaha

I also got a 3d background... free!

Was in a 6x2x2 a mate collected from a curb. (He didn't want the background, so I got it!)

Not fully sure how I'll get it in yet, probably gonna have to empty the tank. Have wanted to do so so I can have a good mess around with filter fittings and aquascape anyway

Pretty damn nice background if you ask me, I reckon it will look great behind the wood and plants.

:)

Thatll look great mate.

I attached mine by buying a whole bunch of ferrite disc magnets (24 from memory) and silicone half to the back of the background, the other half go on the back side of the glass to hold it securely in place.

This way the background can be moved/removed whenever required.

Hey Ice,

I've decided that I'm gonna empty the tank at some stage during the holidays and silicone it in. I've been wanting to get into the tank and mess around with the heater, filter fittings and scape, so it should give me the perfect opportunity to get it all done at the same time.

I just need to figure out what to do with the fish when empty - Got any ideas? I was thinking a couple of black watertight tubs, from say, bunnings, for them to live in for a couple of days? Think I might have to keep them all separate during, otherwise they'll probably get pissed at each other.

IBC full of wood, leave it covered outside in the shade with your filter running on it. This time of year it should be fine for a long time.

yep ive used an IBC for upgrading ray tanks etc etc.

can pick them up pretty cheap and onsell quite easily, plus super quick to drain if it has a tap at the bottom, and if you get a full height one (1000lt) they're quite stable with water chem as its such a large volume, ive kept rays in them over summer with canister filters, no heaters and no dramas!

just put lids on them or mesh.
