Can you order specific sexes?? Or are they to small for that?? Or are the prices for M and F

Only if the fish are sexable size... so if you want some 3cm Metriaclima Esterae.. please don't ask to have a male and a female, because it's not going to happen :)

When will the fish arrive and be available ?

They will arrive last week of January

I won't be getting any of these fish but I'm a bit confused, it seems that some on the list are from overseas and some from the eastern states.

Are the Thorichthys maculipinnis from overseas? or are they the inbred ones that have had the deformed ones culled.

Hi Terry, they are coming from Australia. Most of fish from the list aren't importable from outside Australia unfortunately :(

Im not allowed on ACE... My forum name is too business like apparently :P

So Im thinking everyone should say what they are getting so the people in Perth dont double up, Im quite happy to share some fishes around once I get them up and breeding.
Would be a smart move if we all got different species and got them breeding to share around WA instead of sending them all East.
Thoughts?

Nice idea Az

I'm heading in to place my order for the Protomelas fenestratus Tigers. Already breeding a heap of the hajomaylandi so hope others get the other Mbuna like the G lawsi

Nice, I had the Tigers a few years back, Stunning fish. Unfortunately I didn't breed them before I sold up everything.
Excellent, I'll be interested in some Hajo's in the future.

Guess I'll need some more tanks..

I've order some M. estherae & Super Red Hongi. Would've got a few more but apparently Ive spent enough on fish this break... :(

So when Aquatix say they have a new import list they really mean they are bringing a shipment from over east. ( Most shops do this weekly) Wouldn't it be better to let people know that the shipment is local and not really imported.

When I saw the Thorichthys maculipinnis I thought, Sh#$ keep one tank running and get them breeding it's worth the effort to save the species in Aus. It is only the munted crap that is available everywhere.

Haha I don't blame her though, I told her we would get married this year and we'd start saving for another house and new car. She's put up with my fish hobby since we met 13yrs ago and never said a word.
Better stop hijacking your post Aquotix :)

Come on, who's got some b***s and tries to breed Melanochromis Kaskazini??? :D :D
Nastiest animal ever, left me bleeding few years ago after a bite

Interesting to read your comments on kaskazini, Mattia. I've got a couple of breeding groups from two quite different sources.  The older guys I've had breeding for a couple of years now.  I've found them to be utterly captivating fish, and I haven't had any aggression issues.  For a mbuna, I've found them to be very laid back.  They intrigue me because their behaviours seem to be much more hap-like than mbuna-like, which is probably why they appeal to a hap-addict like me!!!

Cool, very interesting to hear that, and very strange as well :o

In Europe they have the fame of being a tough and very aggressive fish, experienced by myself as well when I was working in the cichlid farm ... that's when I god bitten :(

the guys in France (35 meridien) say that together with D. Kiwinge they are one of the malawi Cichlids that shouldn't be kept in aquarium because of their nasty behavior ... but I'm sure that in the right tank you can have some fun with them :)

Interesting - and why its great to swap experiences.  I can think of a huge string of mbuna I'd rate as more aggressive than kassies, with auratus at the head of that list!   Now that's a species I think has no place in the hobby!!

I'd agree on the kiwinge, but probably from a different perspective.  I've kept them before, and absolutely fell for them.  They are the species that took me to Malawi as I was keen to see them in the lake.  They are one of the really enduring memories of diving there, but having seen those big, majestic fish over their bowers, and seen the amount of space they occupy, I can't ever see myself wanting to keep them again in the sort of aquariums that I'll ever be able to provide!!!  :)

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Aquotix!!  Some absolute ripper fish on the list, some of which have rarely been available in the hobby in Australia in the last decade.

Sounds like someone in Perth should give these a go!!

Any advice on preferred size of breeding group, m/f ratio and size of tank?

anyone getting G lawsi?

I saw these in Labyrinth Aquariums when I was in Sydney last year - really eye catching. I haven't ordered any as I won't have a place to put them when they arrive.

The lawsii are absolutely outstanding fish!  I'd never been interested in them, having only seen them in photos.  But to see them in the flesh . . . . they are breathtaking!!!  Photos just don't do those fish justice!!  They mature quickly, and are good solid breeders.  I would certainly have them myself if I had any tank space.  I reckon they have a real place in the hobby.

With kaskazini, I've started with groups of 10 fish and then weeded out excess males.  My older group is one male, six females, and the younger group is one male, four females (I think).  The older group is in a 4x2x2 tank with a group of Cheilochromis euchilus.  I suggest you'd only likely to be able to keep more than one male if your tank was large with lots of structure.

That's the ploy I usually use when taking on a new Malawi species.  When I can, I buy between 10 - 15 unsexed juvis, and then move on excess males as they mature.  Generally there is a good market for larger, definite males for all-male display tanks, and their sale can help to subsidise the cost of the fish you keep.

Sorry for not clarifying everyone, but we thought that given the species on this list you would assume that is not a shipment from overseas

We fixed the title so no one gets too stressed about it ;)

So YES - we are importing them from over east - like every other shop does in WA

Just to show why the confusion, I googled Import and this is the first thing that came up

import

verb

ɪmˈpɔːt,ˈɪmpɔːt/
  1. 1.
bring (goods or services) into a country from abroad for sale.
"supermarkets may no longer import cheap jeans from Bulgaria"
synonyms: buy from abroad, bring from abroad, bring in, buy in, ship in, source from abroad
"the UK imports 95 per cent of its charcoal"

    Cheers Terry
