I bred them before I took a break from the scene. I kept a few species for enjoyment but didn't condition for breeding anymore. I have just been firing up all my species again since about a month after my son was born. It's been 3 months and only my 6 bars are yet to breed for me now.
But ah yes, in answer to your question I have bred them before, however this will be their first spawns since firing back up. They produced some good fry last time so be good to see how they go this time. They are supposedly f1's as the guy I bought the fry off claimed his were wild caught. But you never know these days. :)

It will be interesting how many fry you get from them this time. How big is your colony and tank. I've been wanting to start a Frontosa tank, I just don't have the room for them  :(

Well looks like 3 mouthfuls at the moment. So good start for them.

Fronts are a labor of love, they cost decent money for decent juvies, take up to 5 years to grow to maturity and then can be finicky to breed and reasonably skittish and spook easy.
They typically like to be in a species specific tank, and being that they are a deep water fish like taller tanks in my experience and of course being tangs good water quality. Then add to that being big fish require a lot of food, which means quite a lot of waste.
I'm sure some people would have a different take on the matter, but this is just my experience. Fronts are a true commitment in my eyes, when you lose one to heat or some other reason while at work, it really hits me hard...especially if it might end up meaning you have to start all over again as that was your only male or female if using smaller colonies... or again if you find your getting a lot of broken bar fry being produced.

Excepting stingray pups any day form my current ray pair.

Taken 2.5 years for them to grow and do there job, hopefully get some nice looking pups with the dad being a 50/50 leo and the mum a 3 way mantilla leo motoro.

Will post a vid of the back movement in the girl. and follow up with some pics when born.

I have decided to grow up a little colony of ngara and moved the parents on, just yesterday a female tried some spawning, was pretty hopeless at it too hahaha, I'm assuming she'll pick it up after a couple of goes?

I now have two female callochromis macrops holding at the same time.  The last eggs were swallowed so here is hoping they go the full pull.

Great Joel :)

I'm having the same issue with females chewing up eggs after spawning. Getting plenty of spawning activity but only had two instances where fry have been produced. Trying a few things to sort that out but if you come up with a solution I'd be keen to hear what you did

Yes sir, this is the second time around so I hope they will have learned a few skills and what not from the first time.  I think I will try get the females out of the main tank earlier this time just to cut down on being chased by other fish in the tank, especially the male.

My 7 bar fronties spawned a few of days ago, then the female ate the eggs the next day... Does that count? Lol

Today I noticed my apistogramma agassizii fire gold guarding some eggs.

Also, does anyone know where to get baby brine shrimp or microworms? I would like to try and raise these fry.

Thanks

I love Apistos. Nice one! Any pics? I saw some fire gold agazizi's in the little display at Aquotix on the weekend. It looks awesome, but don't tell Mattia. Don't want him getting a big head.

You should set up a BBS hatchery with a 2 litre coke bottle. You can get eggs from most good aquarium shops. Pretty sure Vebas and Aquotix both sell them. Shame you're north..... :P

I could even help you set up a little shrimp hatchery, but once again..... you know..... North of the river........ maybe you could move?

Looking at the colouring of my matadi kribs, I'd say I'll have some fry soon enough.

Super stoked about this, as I had some breeding before in the original Aquascape competition.

I lost the male when I put the pair in a display with Nigeria Red kribs (rookie mistake), and then lost another 2 display males that I purchased as they had some kind of bacterial infection. Morley got matadi kribs now, so I got this male on Monday. Fingers toes ears and everything else crossed I can get some fry out of this pair. Femal turned black with a cherry tummy as soon as the male was put in the tank. What a tart!

Unfortunately woke up the next day to find all the eggs gone and the female no longer being super aggressive.

I assume she ate them all when I turned off the lights. Hopefully they succeed next time.

Also looking at some land in Morley so might be moving a little bit closer, but still north. Thanks for the tip with BBS, I was at Vebas yesterday but only saw your post today. Next time I'm there I'll have a look.

And nice work on the kribs!

Just got some L.hecqui from city barn so hopefully they start breeding in the next few months
