Well I was inspired to write this thread because of an earlier one ..Regarding
(Q about legal fish imports)

I have travelled a bit and have been fortunate and been able to visit many cool and interesting places ..:good

When able I would always try to find the local creek river etc and wade in and see what I could catch ….while I have not been able to do this in Perth ..Just yet !!!;)

I was wondering if many are as crazy as I and have collected from the local systems in Perth.:o

On my last trip while in syd I managed to visit a local river sys that runs just meters away from the Lucas height nuclear reactor off shot of the Georges river sys. It was pristine environment (funny that hay) seriously this place was magic. On this trip we collected many local fish and even some of the local Blue tongue lizards and water dragons.

Some of the more interesting fish etc collected were
1-stripy gudgeons www.amonline.net.au/fishe...tralis.htm
2-fire tail gudgeons www.amonline.net.au/fishe...hgalii.htm
3-long finned eel www.amonline.net.au/fishe...inhard.htm
4-Cox gudgeons www.amonline.net.au/fishe...gcoxii.htm
5-Pacific Blue eye www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/psignifer.htm
6-Climbing Galaxias www.amonline.net.au/fishe...gbrevi.htm

Unfortunately we also collected mosquito fish and sadly the place was full with CARP rrrrrrrrrrrrr…lucky in this location the Fire brigade have installed a small dam to collect water from ..So about half the river sys is still native (up from this dam) Carp sighted were all seen below this dam ..So hope its enough to keep them out for good. ></span>:

So the question really is what’s in our local streams etc in Perth ..Anyone have any experience doing this !!!

Note that we did not keep any of the fish caught !! Pics were taken and information recorded for the use of a talk in ANGFA NSW ..So all were put back were we caught them.

Be good :good
:good

hrrm, i havent really seriously gone out for "real fish" in the river, though i have had some experience collecting fish from there. there are plenty of gambusia (mosquito fish), gobies, though i couldnt give you a scientic name, blowies ></span>: ></span>: ></span>: how we all hate them, though i spose theyd be ok in an aquarium as you could feed them all kinds of trash tongue.gif:rollin garbage disposal. there are mullet, herring, white bait and tailor also. if your lucky, flathead can be found, and some bream. finally, the ultimate tank mate. how about a dolphin AHHAHAHA.
Justin

Some love to live, others live to love.

Tournament angler, I've fished a hell of a lot of waters in WA.
Freshies: Trout (rainbow and brown), redfin, gudgeon thingo's (dont really know names of them), gambusia.
Salt: endless list. most common, bream, flathead, mullet, tailor, herring, small gudgeon thingo's, silver biddy, gambusia (way upriver), tarwhine, trevally, mangrove jack.
Hope this helps guys.

Dave

Hey Seb
Theres a creek i go to where weve got a few bits and pieces. I dont know the latin, and my common names are probably wrong :lol

Ive got:
Pygmy Perch
Galaxias
Gambusia
Night (Knight?) fish
Comets ></span>:
These funny minnow things that i think Vebas sells as mountain minnows?
Ducklings :lol
Marron
Swan river gobys
Glass shrimp

And a nice tiger snake one day but thats a diff. story ;)

This is in one creek in the metro area, the fish are seasonal though. Sometimes you get night fish and gobys, other times you cant stop catching pygmy perch.

Cheers
Jordan

depending on where you go depends on what you can find ;)
I hear that their are murry cod in some parts of the swan (not sure if it is actually true)
Koi in the canning river (unreliable source, definately most likely true)
mosquitofish (introduced)
the usual crays- koonacs, marron, yabbies, gilgies
"glass shrimp"
everything jordan said basically. I can confirm that their are Pygmy Perch in Gingin, I have some wild caught guys from gingin in a tank here atm.

I've seen various unidentified colourful fish in the canning, one fish that strikes my mind had black and white stripes along it's back, and was around 5cm long, there was also another fish that met the same description as above but had an orang/ red caudal fin. I couldn't catch them so I have no idea what they could have been.

www.australianrainbowfish...~leftFrame

These guys make great tank mates are non agressive and look very cool ...and if u keep them in good nick are always in great deep red colour :good
The males are the best and if you have 2 or more in a tank they display all day to each other (like fighting fish )

I should by a scanner ..lol :rollin
