This photo is of a female (I think) angelfish that I have kept for several years now. A mild-mannered young thing that rules over 13 much larger congo tetras and walks (swims!) a fine line with the larger angelfish between socialising and outright bickering. Love watching this fish interact.

This photo shows her rising out of the background plants.

Plants, plants, plants - sigh. If I didn't know better I'd assume the val is kicking the ambulia out as more of it is floating around. Background area of tank needs drastic pruning.

New light is going great running one bank only, algae still well and truly under control. Thinking of bumping up the light period half an hour and see what happens. Or increasing light intensity - still thinking. Will give it a few more weeks.

Put some red alt on left side of tank to see if I can get some colour there. The leaves on the new plants are larger than mine so I assume more CO2 and higher light intensity may help.

The tank has cleared a bit and I think it was bad because several weeks ago I cleaned the tank but didn't refill the tank until the afternoon by which time a lot of plants had dried out. Still getting a lot of debris each weekend but the water seems to be clearing.

I haven't seen pure black Angel fish in ages. Nice one! Ambulia needs constant trimming, or it bunches up and floats

Thanks! A small fish but nice to watch. Really hard to get a photo of I found.

Not wrong on the ambulia. It's getting out of hand again - thanks for the tip.

Minor problem. One side of the driftwood stack has collapsed onto a few plants. So to fix this I've bought another piece of wood to wedge under the first piece of wood that is supporting another piece of wood. I'm sure it will work (although last time I touched this I spend 20 minutes trying to sort it out so fingers crossed).

If anyone knows of a glue that works underwater I'd be pretty interested. I've heard of glues that work on coral or something in saltwater tanks?

Super glue. No joke. Let it dry and give it a rinse but otherwise all good.

or you can use flourish glue

more expensive than super glue but I've been using it since it came out in oz and it's good stuff

Say is this fish safe? I can't tell looking at seachem website.

Here is a before photo showing where the driftwood has fallen out and the hard, straight line of the rock ornament stands out.

74564-albums13177-picture70288.jpg

Inserted the new piece of driftwood (black on left side) to hold the entire lot up. Spent more time than I thought and not sure it will stay. Underwater glue that is fish safe would be nice.

The trouble is I have to rotate the pieces of wood into the ornament holes one-handed (so I can bend down to look through side glass to see what I'm doing) on top of the ladder which is all a bit painful.

74564-albums13177-picture70290.jpg

Catfish love the new piece of wood. Had to chase them away so I could see how the wood was slotting together. Anyways fingers crossed!

New piece of wood is still working. The driftwood tangle looks like a house of cards but still staying put. Still a catfish magnet.

Down with flu so decided to check out the Seneye reef ph test result. Unfortunately it was saying 7.5 and the co2 ph probe was saying 7. Grrrrr.

Tested today. The co probe was 6.7; the ph pen was 6.9 and the API test was 6.8. Seneye ph was still 7.5.....

Looked up the Seneye instructions and it should read down to 6.4 so perhaps I didn't put it in correctly. Also it said air can get trapped in the meter casing. I'll try re-seating the slide next water change. On the website the ph graph was hardly moving so something wrong there (technology, bah humbug).

Hey, great little journal. You sure like the new fangled gizmos. Tanks looking very good. No major algae battles is a good result.

Hi, many thanks! Yes - there is a touch of BBA on the driftwood and some green algae here and there but so much better than when I was running high-powered LED lights. The recent addition of a second light seems to be giving better growth without more algae coming in so really shouldn't complain. I look at the really nice tanks though and dream of what I could do better I guess :)

I must confess I'm a sucker for this sort of stuff and the family don't complain (too) much about it.

If they arent complaining, I presume you are going to fire up a tank for the aquascaping comp.
The substrate looks a bit unusual what is it?

Thanks for the idea, I'll have to have a look at the comp. I had an idea it was for setting up new tanks from scratch and still getting this one sorted. Be nice to do a nano planted tank though.

The substrate is a bit of everything. About two thirds fine gravel and the rest is mainly seachem fluorite red. There is also about 10kg of the volcanic pellets for planted tanks. This is mainly on the left side and does make it much easier for planting. Pretty expensive though. Somewhere in there is also some API laterite clay and 200 diy root tabs.

The red alt has kind of got me beat - it grows sooo slow! I reckon it has taken 5 months for it to grow a foot high and is where most of the green algae issues are.

I'm hoping if I get the second co2 line going I can have co2 injecting right next to it, else any tips??

Ordered the co2 line splitter and needle valves. Hopefully that all works when it arrives.

Also went down and bought a ceramic diffuser as so far can't find where I put the second tunz diffuser for safe keeping. If I use that then I will have to remove the uv unit I think so I have a power point.

Tested potassium. The kit has expired but got a reading of 75ppm. Usually get a reading of between 70 to 130ppm. I had it reading 100ppm and the hygro was still showing potassium deficiency until I increased dosing so idk.

Also cleaned tank, pruned plants at the back of tank and reseated the Seneye reef ph chip. The chip looks fine so fingers crossed but not too confident so can't be bothered connecting it all back up to the computer again.
