Hey, Has anyone had experience in keeping / growing trout in a aquarium ?
I'd like to put some in a spare 6x2x2 and see if I can grow them up ?

you will need a chiller and regular water changes... and they are very jumpy.

should be able to keep them outdoors soon without a chiller

Certainly possible.. many people grow them in outdoor tanks / ponds as part of aquaponics.
They dont like water temps above 25 degrees really, so either you chill the water or only grow them through the cool months.
If you plan on eating them, you'll want to feed proper aquaculture food - Who knows what goes into aquarium foods for colour enhancements.

Should be possible... like MrOrange said, you would want to feed them aquaculture food (if you plan on eating them) and also stop using water conditioner when you do water changes... (read fine print on water conditioner... usually says not suitable for fishes meant for human consumption)....
Be warn that they produce quite a bit of waste and your filtration needs to be very good... uneaten food will quickly produce sick and dead trout...
