This morning I found a dead motorbike frog near my pond.
I think he was the smaller one of the 2 I usually see.

He is around 6.5cm long, was covered in ants but still squishy - so not dead that long.

I just want to know if anyone has any ideas of what he died of?

He didn't seem to have any wounds just a bit of blood coming out of the side of his mouth.
This makes me think that he ate a poisoned bug or snail.

I don't use chemicals on my garden or poison snails or anything like that but I suppose he could've been in other peoples gardens eat things that were poisoned.

Is this the likely cause?

Someone probably stepped on the poor little bugger. That or a cat got it? Wild frogs usually wont eat things that arent moving. If youve got two that you see you can pretty much guarantee theres more hanging around. I thought we had two at one stage, turned out we had about 6...

+1 to stepped on it. It's easy to do and not know. Cats love torturing them, too.

lol kleinz, my cat is sadistic when it comes to frogs, he loves smacking them with his paw and making them squeel, they make one horrible squeel too.

Yeah, I occasionally step on one in bare feet... only way I know. The over the road cat comes and makes them scream occasionally. I think the one upside of cane toads is that it will reduce cat numbers drastically. Cats really are a--holes.

Mmmmm nice comments.

I wonder if ppl would say the same thing when their dog/cat or child got hit by a car.

All living things deserve some sort of life. (except some humans)

Some tree frogs can live for 20+ years they are great to have around the garden as they help control a lot of unwanted pests. Unfortunately it does sound like it has been killed by a cat or stepped on wich I am sure you would have been aware of if you did it and not likely a bird as they would have eaten it (after stepping on it).Keep an eye out and if you start to find more dead ones I then wouldnt write of the chance of chytrid fungus if so get a dead/dying one in a container and contact frog watch.
Any one who is happy to sit and watch a cat smack around a frog and get amusement from the squealing has probably had a long enough life also.
Cheers Kev

All my frogs are hiding now its cooler so lucky if you see one - there is probably over 100 - if you haven't had tadpoles look up the tadpole register on the net about August and you can get hundreds from some people - that would establish them - never had any trouble with diesease - rats and cats and seen a fox as well are my biggest problem - and don't forget it may have had a random health problem - cheers mal
