Arhhh, brought a 6 foot the other day, off gumtree, cheap. didnt really think and took it around the back to clean it out, it got filled maybe 10-15 cm up and then i heard a crack, then ofcourse there is a large crack with several smaller line cracks coming our of it, though water dosent seem to be leaking/ or noticably anyway.

So if i put the tank on foam on a stand will it leak or break even worse fully fulled up, or can i buy some kind of sealent.?

oh its on the bottom at the end aswell, sorry.

I wouldn't be filling up a tank to full capacity with any sort of crack in it, especially the base where monitoring the damage may be difficult.

A pic of the damage would help.

You have a few options. First would be to replace the entire bottom of the tank. Or silicone a piece of glass over the crack. Or, buy a new tank.

Personally, I'd contact the seller and let them know the tank has cracked straight away. See if a deal can be struck. Or buy a new tank.

Hrm. Perhaps the ground under it was not quite level. Looks like it's had the dick, though.

Sorry.

Yeah I wouldn't be filling any tank on that surface :/

10-15 cm high water in a 6 footer is a decent amount and would be pretty heavy... safe to say if you cleaned it on some poly I doubt that would of happened

The way i see some people treat tanks is  :brickwall: . If it was not broken when purchased, then i don't see how the seller was at fault. Glass is very unforgiving so treat it with respect, always lay it down flat with some protective packing underneath.

well i usually keep my tanks top notch, with the best care. this tank was really dirty and yuck when i got it. plus it had water in it when he dropped it off! Though i havent had a plain glass tank before always brands such as jewel or aqua one, or terrariums, they always do fine with the pressure.

Patch it up mate. Get a piece of glass to fit over the cracked area and silicon it down.

Has anyone tried to use some sort off liner on the whole bottom of the tank? Like pond liner or something? I was thinking to patch it up with glass and silicon, then put some sort of liner on the bottom then cover it all up with substrate?

Yep, like people have already sad. It is extremely likely that the tank was damaged due to the surface that it was partially filled on. I think people may have been a little harsh in the way they have pointed that out to you though. An honest mistake, and not one I would think you would make again. Everyone makes a few silly mistakes with things along the way. I have personally broken a tank left on the floor on the backyard, I instead chose to break mine with my shin in the dark, unfortunately for me I came off second best with 20 odd stitches in my leg. These things happen.

I am no expert on repairing broken tanks. Best bet is to get the opinion of a professional tank builder; I'd be fairly certain morley aquariums, vebas or aquotix would all be able to point you in the right direction about what to do next.

Best of luck mate,

Alex

I have been moving a tank by myself once, grabbed it by the brace, snapped the brace and cut the crap outta my hand.

And always cleaned tanks on grass with nothing under them, never cracked one yet.

Personally I wouldn't trust that tank inside unless the bottom has been replaced.

Others are a little more relaxed than me.

should never never place a tank on brick paving or concrete, empty or not, looks like there could have been a rock on the paving in that spot.
