As werdna pointed out its cheap you can buy a tube for less then you can buy a fish, so is it really worth the risk using a silicone that isn't aquarium safe ? Ill leave that up to you mate

What thickness glass you getting?

havent thought about it. Its hard enough to find the right size , what do you reccomend? It dosent need to be as thick as the orginal bottom does it?

I would say yes, it does.

What size 6ft its it?
If its 18 high go 8mm, 24 high go 10mm.
The difference in cost is pretty low.
Vebas has the cheapest glass around in my experience.

what do you guys think about the whole white vinegar thing? and scraping inside the cracks before putting in the silicon.

gossnels aquariums is my main atm. With aqoutix being my secound option.

Tbh if you going to try skimp on things and do as easier cheaper job possible then don't bother man. Do it once and do it right. You don't wanna stuff around with this sort of thing.

alright so went and measured it so it would give you guys an idea of the size, the crack is 82cmx32cm.  the reason that it is so long is because there is one very long single crack that potrudes right out away from the others. Its a bitch. And the secound annoying thing is that i have a peice of glass at home that is 78cm x 32. arhh.

I agree with Ray, do it right the first time. (there's a first )
And make sure the base is fully supported when completed
Btw, you should put the patch inside the tank IMO.
There is a reason the base glass doesn't go to the edge of tanks and the sides come all the way to the bottom.

Not to mention if you patch the bottom of the tank there will be a lump of glass under the tank so it won't sit flat. Even with foam under it there will still be uneven pressure distributed to the base of your tank which will cause big problems as you have already hopefully learnt

The patch doesn't have to be one piece use the piece you have and get another piece to do the rest.
One piece is best but it can be done with a few.

Do it in 10mm don't mess around with thin glass

yeah man thanks aye. Gonna take my time instead of rushing to fix it and screwing it up. Going to get some silicone this morning and talk to people at the aquarium shop about it. , Might also look into a 6x2x2.5 aswell;)

Went to gossnels today, they said to remove all silcone from bottom sides, and get 2 peices of glass cut to fit as i cant fit the size i want in once peice. Then silicone it down, then redo the silicone around the eedges and the moddle of the two peices.

 

Also the silicone for aquariums was 40 dollers or 15 dollers for ordinary stuff they said will be safe.

that $40 one they have there is safe to use under water, you can use it under water (gold label)

no need for that one when your tank is empty
