Did you get a new ceramic part as well or just the impeller?

New 2217 impellers are $57.99, I heard someone on the phone ask for eheim 2217 impellers while I was at seaview today hehe.

Probably costs eheim like 5 cents to build an impeller

That sounds quite steep. Should be more like $40.

Okay, i'll buy a new impeller :)

What do you mean by the white cap? I don't know which part you are referring to :P sorry

Here is a photo, I had issues with the magnet and the white bit (top and bottom) that holds it in. The magnet should fit snug in the in between the white bits. Over time the magnet spreads the white out a little, which allows it to rattle.

Take it to your LFS of choice, I've had the same problem with a 2217. My impeller was slightly worn down and impossible for me, with an untrained eye, to see. After it was pointed out to me it was easier to see. I think I paid about $40-odd dollars from Aquotix. Quiet as now

Well for my 250L I got an eheim 2217 so that's what I meant by big but now I have a feeling I shouldn't have said that :P
I'll try a new impeller and see if it helps

I dumped all my eheim classics because I got sick of the racket as soon as it had a moderate load.

I'd say if you have not cleaned your hoses and all fittings properly don't waste money on a impeller until you have done that.

At one stage I had 11 classics, I still have one of the frigging things, its not in use though, backup only.

before you go and fork out for a new impellar try a bit of super glue. I've repaired a fair few eheim impellars with super glue. One has been running for nearly 2 years now without skipping a beat. When my 2228 impellar gave way they quoted me $60 for a new impellar and after $3 of super glue and about 5 minutes of my time it was running smooth as a babies behind. Granted if the ceramic shaft snaps it's game over for using super glue but yeah the gromets will glue to the magnet fine if snapped/cracked.

Also make sure that the inlet pipe is nowhere near an airstone or it will suck up bubbles.
If there is no air coming out when you shake it, the impeller needs attention as suggested.
