G'Day Noddy,

Fisrt off get yourself registered on "universal" is best as that will give you access to all the boards under the same handle.

Second, where abouts are you? If you are in S E Qld you are out of luck at the moment. I haven't seen any peppermints in the market place for about 18 months. They are out there tho, just bide your time and they will pop up somewhere.

:cheers

I have one hundred baby peppermints at the moment but are only a week old. They are realtively slow growing in comparason to the normals bristlenose so will be a few months yet. I live in Bundaberg, three hours drive North of Brisbane on the coast.

Ratty, how long does it take for peppermints to grow from egg to 4 cm long? What do you feed them?

Yes I know a few guys with rare cats and they are trying to get them to a stage where they can try to breed them

Unique8
The shops seem to be retailing at $45-$70ea depends on size and the shop (most are 3-3.5cm size)

Breeders are getting approx $10 per cm (3-3.5cm @ $30ea)
But thats Sydney don't know about other states but would assume about the same figures

L2H,
How long does it takes for peppremint to grow to 3 - 3.5 cm (saleable size)? Anita ozfish mentioned that you can get orange spotted bristlenose for around $50 in Sydney. Are they as nice as the peppermint?
Have you managed to breed them?

Try Fish4U at Ingleburn they seem to have the best retail prices when in stock ..... other than that just ring around
St George, Aquatic Wholsalers, Lams, Riverside and Crystal Palace are worth trying

I have a friend that seems to be getting semi regular spawns but he doesn't sell to the public ....... just doesn't want the hassles involved
Like I said before mail me and I can find out if he has anything available

Ikan
Peppermints seem to have one of the larger juveniles when compared to other Ancistrus and growth depends on feeding and water management
I will ask how long my friend takes to get his to 3cm but I think its a couple of months

There are a few A.leucasticta starting to become available but they are the smallest juveniles of the Ancistrus and don't seem to have the growth potential of the others
They aren't as flashy as the Peppermint but a nice fish all the same (dark choc brown body with sparcer white spots and apricot spots on the lower fins)

All of mine are looking like females but there is one that could be a possible male (it hasn't developed the head bristles I feel it should be showing) so fingers crossed ...... I have sent a couple of my breeding size females out and there was one spawn that has been produced from them the other week

:cheers L2H
