Substrate - It's Roll In The Aquarium

08 November 2014 - 01:28 PM

So this is a fairly broad question and not one answer will be suitable but I'm curious as to how important substrate is to the aquarium.
Clearly it's of more benefit to plants and fish who are dependant on it but does it play a bigger role than that?

Marine Glue & Corals

18 October 2014 - 09:53 AM

Morning all!
So lately I have been waking up to my tank being rearranged - more noticeable now I have a few corals that are easily moved.
My little zoa clusters constantly flipped upside down and my leather keeps getting knocked off its spot.

So I need to get rid of some of my big turbos , if anyone wants to swap for smaller snails let me know, but I also want to attach my zoas and leather to their locations. I seen people using reef glue but my biggest concern is if I glue it.. How permanent goes the glue fix ? Will I be able to move it again?
And do I use the glue in the tank? Out of the tank? Does it need to cure? Where do I get said reef glue?

Coming from freshwater glue and tanks was a no no and any gluing was done prior to filling with water and left to cure for a while.

Need to sort out asap as I don't want to disturb my coral growth.

Marine Shrimp

16 October 2014 - 10:49 AM

I was always fascinated by shrimp tanks in the freshwater side of the hobby and never considered it as apart of the marine side of things, until now.
I fricken LOVE my peppermint shrimp and in the 3 weeks I have had them they have grown HUGE and are the most vibrant red. They are hilarious to watch running around feeding and everyone is always excited when they notice one hiding in the caves.

So I think I'm going to get my shrimp on and shrimp it up and turn my tank in to a shrimpalicious shrimp haven.

I am getting a pair of bumble bee shrimp and Saron shrimp in a couple of weeks and will see how I go with them if all goes well I just might bite the bullet the get some of the blood shrimp or the red line cleaner shrimp.

What's everyone's thoughts on shrimp in the marine tank?

What are some ideal scaley tank mates?

Moulting Crustaceans

13 October 2014 - 09:02 AM

I thought everything was dying but now am under the knowledge that's these creatures all moult.
In a week I thought I had lost a shrimp, two crabs (I didn't know I had) and a hermit crab.
Seems they have all just done a group moult.. Mass moultings.
Is this a sign of good or bad water?

Blue Tangs

09 October 2014 - 08:30 PM

So I have come to the conclusion that Dory is actually an accurate portrayal of a Blue Tang.
They are the dumbest and most disappointing fish ever, other than the fact it has done exactly what I wanted it to do in cleaning the upper parts of my coral, it is a stupid and very idiotic fish.
It sleeps in a 'bed' and it's the exact same spot every night. It pretends I can't see it, even though it is bright blue and yellow. It's acts dead even though it is very much alive.. It's a very 'special' fish.
I don't know how I'm going to catch it but if anyone wants to swap for some gobys or clowns or fire fish let me know Ahah cause I don't really like it.
