An announcement: will be made monthly advising the topic.
Photos may then be submitted to me or one of the other committee members via PM at which point they will be screened for plagiarism and excessive editing.
And finally they will be submitted onto the Photocomps monthly page for public viewing.

Submitted Photos Require to be:

  • Submitted by a Financial Club Member
  • Water mark free and anonymous
  • Relatively unedited e.g. (Minor Adjustments OK (white balance/ sharpen) , but heavily edited for example removing blemishes and stripes on a fish and subject to disqualification)
  • Photos will be displayed to a max 1024 pixels wide, photos with a resolution above this will be resized to 1024. (Photobucket and IMG codes Will resize automatically)

NB: The use of a photo-hosting website like Photobucket makes uploading and submission of your photos much easier.
Simply upload your photo to Photobucket and then submit the finished article to one of us by copying and pasting the IMG code into a PM

Judging will take place five days before the end of the month and which point entries will close. All photos will be available to Club Members Only to anonymously vote on a poll.

NB: Voting WILL be monitored and any of evidence of cheating (ie, creating accounts for votes) will lead to an automatic disqualification and you will not be allowed to enter any comps for the rest of the year. This includes disqualification from the final round. Any entrant found guilty of trying to solicit votes i.e. through pm's or facebook will also be disqualified.

Monthly Prizes with be awarded to 1st and 2nd place, for the winners of that month according to the table below.
You have a choice of prize goods which will relate to the subjects (Topic) of that month in particular or....
Alternately you can choose to have a cheque/voucher made out to a sponsor of your choice according to the values in the table below.

Points will be awarded for each entry based upon aspects like quality and subject. Remember that although you may not have the flashiest camera, it didn't
stop people from winning the previous photo comps (Many using their smart phones), Subject is equally important as quality.
Even if you entered but didn't win anything, you will be awarded points for your efforts. With this system, continuous participation and consistency is rewarded, not just one timers.
Thus, people who constantly participate will be rewarded for their efforts. Who knows, you could take out the prize.

Points eared throughout the annual competition will be tallied up and the person with the greatest number of points will win the annual prize,
Which will be much elaborate and substantial that the monthly prizes. Definitely something worth the effort.
(Annual prize will be deliberated during next months committee meeting: Details to follow)

Remember: Photos can be taken anywhere (Even your LFS or friend's house with permission). As long as you took the shot is taken by you: its valid.

Is the judging system the same as it used to be? Member vote, judge 1, judge 2?

Hey Tim,

The voting system will be similar to previous photo comps. We obviously want to make it as fair as possible.

This will most likely be in the form of a weighted vote....for example:

The total score of a photo will be based upon your member votes (Possibly 75% weighted) and a specific committee member with photography experience (Possibly 25% weighted), who will forfeit their chance to enter the competition and remain the judge.

That committee member would then give a short synopsis of why they chose the photo they did. Rest assured that committee member would have absolutely no access to the authors of the photos to keep their opinion pure and unbiased.

These are just thoughts at the moment, they will be finalised and set in stone during next weeks committee meeting.

The committee and I have decided to make the Photocomp completely judged by the PCS financial members. Five days before the end of each month, entries will close and a anonymous voting poll will be open to club member to vote on their peers photos.

This makes the process streamlined and easy to undertake and the peer voting system provides a sense of transparancy. This Photocomp is being run to give back to the financial members who support us.

This comp is a big financial under taking for the club with over $1000 of prizes up for grabs, so get theses entries in for a chance to win some cool goodies.

Be aware that the winners of the months photocomps will have to come and collect the prizes from the clubs monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of every month or make alternate arrangements.

Thanks Rovik. In my opinion it is quite risky to rely on the poll alone - especially if there is such a large amount of cash and prizes involved. In past comps the voting from the poll was quite close at times, and all it would have taken to win was to ask a PCS mate to vote for your photo.

This risk was balanced out by having two impartial judges.

I think you should have at least one judge to balance things out. It's worked well in the past. If the problem the CM has is finding a judge, I will forfeit my right to enter the comp and be a judge if that's what it takes smile.gif

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the input but the process for voting was discussed by the committee and it was decided that we do it via poll only.

We'll see how that goes and may revist the voting for future months.

Cheers,

Andrew
