I've noticed a pea shaped lump/bulge on the side of my prized ghost knife. Over the past two weeks I'd noticed he'd been eating less (I hand feed him) and had been spending more time out of his cave while the light is on. He's 5-6 years old and is in a community 6ft tank with a variety of other fish that are peaceful and never really interfere with him.

Type of fish: Ghost Knife Fish
Symptoms: Unusual Behaviour (Out during the day), pea sized lump on his side
Other tank mates: Angelfish, Pictus Catfish, Congo Tetras, Torpedo Barbs, Peppermint Plecos, Lemon Plecos, Siamese Algae Eaters, Leopard Danios, Checkered Rainbows
Tank size / capacity: 6ft x 15 x 18
Type of Food fed: Frozen Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp (Thawed and rinsed before serving). Also eats some sinking Hikari Cichlid Gold Pellets and occasionally snacks on the zucchini in the tank for plecos
Feeding frequency/amount: Alternating Bloodworms / Brine Shrimp every second day
Substrate: Pebbles
Type of filtration: Aqua One Aquis 1000
Frequency of filter cleans: 3 Months
Frequency and % volume of water changes: Once or Twice a week 20%
Last water change: Yesterday
PH: 6.8
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Ammonia: 0
Water temp: 27
Medications used recently to date: No meds used yet as I know GKF are sensitive to meds
Any recent changes: No changes to the tank in the last 6months

He's still struggling. Spent most of the day lying down in different parts of the tank. I did a 20% water change and a half dose of Melafix today

Looked into a compacted intentional mass at all as possible? Something to match feeding issues noted.

Update: I've been doing daily 20% water changes and dosing with 1/2 doses of melafix after each water change. I also swapped to attempting to feed daily with half the amount of food and including some mushed up peas with the bloodworms.

His appetite picked up a little bit yesterday and so far today he's back in his cave which is much more normal behaviour from him so I'm taking that as a positive sign. Haven't noticed much change in the lump yet and will continue to do the daily water changes and melafix doses for now.
