It appears that the male, as often, will color up more than the female, but even though i can easily distinct the dominant male and 1 sub-dominant in my 5 fish colony. I am not able to say with certitude the sex of the other 3.
Yes they are paler, a bit more brownish/greyish but still have blue body with black stripes. Any info that could help?

Thanks daz, well on your pictures the female is obviously brownish/grey. Mines are far more blueish kind of. Do you think they could still be female and start changing colors once older? I will post pictures soon.
exact same thing here mate.

I was breeding these guys for awhile (sold the colony now) anyhow, I thought I had 3m 7f.
Once they started breeding, the dominant male hammered the sub-dominant male to the point where I had to remove the sub male.
All of the pulpicans had blue colouring, though the females were a paler blue, paler barring, and I was puzzled as to why the male left in there wasn't picking on the other male....until the 'other male' got a mouthful.
She had vibrant colours like the dominant male, beautiful fish.
The one remaining male was in his element, and did an excellent job keeping my fry tanks busy.
Have fun breeding them mate, and I'm with Daz, one of my favourite species also.
