So, I was just at Aquatix on my lunch break. Guess who were there. Fisheries!

I asked them "what are you doing" and they said that they were taking the Darwin Native Shrimp away to check they were correctly labelled.

As I watched they moved onto a few other varieties to removed all them too. Far out!

So guys, just beware that MTW's might be back in the sights of Fisheries.

What can we do?

I think that everyone on the PCS needs to setup a MTW tank immediately so that we can keep the full spectrum of species going otherwise there's another variety soon to be out of reach for the WA Hobbyist.

Why can't they spend all that money on removing Pearl Cichlids from our waterways instead?

Because that would be way too easy and it wouldn't annoy shop owners.

Coincidentally I was sent this email today at work:

Dear biosecurity stakeholder

The Biosecurity Council of Western Australia is investigating the delivery of biosecurity activities across the State. In particular, we are hoping to bring together the views of key stakeholders from across government, industry and community to help develop an agreed and common understanding of roles, responsibilities and principles that underpin an effective biosecurity system for Western Australia.

The Biosecurity Council is a specialist advisory group to the Minister for Agriculture and Food and the Director General of the Department of Agriculture and Food. It is our role to provide advice on biosecurity-related matters. We also provide advice to other Ministers, if necessary.

To help us develop advice that considers the views of a wide range of biosecurity stakeholders, we have developed an online questionnaire that we hope you are able to complete.

The information you provide will form the basis of the Council’s advice to the State Government. We believe the information will provide a strong foundation for the development of important biosecurity-related policy. As such, we feel that it is of the utmost importance for your views to be identified, recognised and understood.

To have your say, you can access the questionnaire from the following website: https://www.surveymo...curityCouncilWA

The survey will be open for two weeks until 8 am Monday 23 June 2014, and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

If you would like a copy of the results, there is the opportunity to enter your email or postal address at the end of the questionnaire.

I hope that you are able to take part in this important work.

Different department I know, but a related topic and possibly the biosecurity council is more influential than a group of hobbyists writing letters ad nauseum. Haven't read the survey yet but assuming it would be asking questons relevant to the shrimp situation.

Nothing there all useless.

Im trying to bring bichirs in from over east and have been told they'll be confiscated and destroyed.

However there not noxious, so what's the problem.... oh wait, there ppl who think they can wreck other ppls hobbies, morons, and if fisheries are reading this, tell me the problem with bringing stuff from over east that isn't noxious, cause it seems none of there staff members on phones can.

Rant over - lol.

Because that would actually be being productive!!!

Honestly these fishery things are getting ridiculous they obviously have nothing better to do. Fishery raiders do yourself a favour... Buy some cherry shrimp, maybe 20 or so (a reasonable ammount for someone to keep), release them into the swan river and wait for destruction! The only thing that will be ruined is the cherry shrimp because they will die in the salt water genius!!!!!!!

The reason that fisheries are raiding shrimp is purely self centred, they want attention and no matter how productive what they're doing is they're still going to do it to 'save our ecosystems' and look important. Talking about saving our Eco systems, why don't they go out and get rid of the baited shark lines, would be 90000% more effective than raiding shrimp.

Why would someone release their cherry shrimp into a river anyway!

Sorry, I'll shut up now :)

Why did they take native shrimps from Aquotix when people are selling cherries on Gumtree and CRS on other For Sale sites?
It just doesn't make sense. Is someone intentionally tipping off Fisheries department? A competitor perhaps? Just seems unnecessary and abnormal.....

On a serious note though fisheries are out of control. They admitted to me earlier this year that they would reject my application for a translocation permit so other people wouldnt get any ideas about doing it. This is despite the fact that my application met and exceeded criteria based on reasonably expectable risks to the fish, the environment, etc.

Jules if your fish are on neither grey or black list what is their beef? Why will they not play by the rules that actually enact the department and give them any authority whatsoever?

You took the words out if my mouth Jason.... It is bordering on persecution
- a small business like ours have no leg to stand on.

And from the mouth of one of the officers involved - "when we are finished with the shrimp, cichlids are next...."

Ill be setting up another rack just for wild caught marine shrimps next - see if they can tell the difference....

So it is ok to pillage the oceans for wild caught fish, but just don't breed any freshwater fish.... Unless they are trout...
