Such a stressful time, power went out an hour and a half ago and still have 2 and a half hours to go. Hopefully comes on earlier

Hopefully it it gets up and running soon. What setups have you got?

It isn't to bad. I kept 4 tanks with no losses of fish for almost 10hrs. All I did is use a battery operated air bubbler and swapped it 1hr intervals.

not sure if it did anything really but tjats all I had.

Best of luck

I've got 4 battery air filter on my 8x2x2, one on my 4x2 and one on my 2ft fry tank. So I have one 4ft that doesn't have one on but that only has 3 fish in there. Just my big tank I think needs more as its over populated but they seem fine, some even doing mating dances lol only one stressed is the salmon tail

Can always do a water change or just agitate the hell out of the water every so often.
All good suggestions and as you move up in expensive systems and time with out power some other options can be used.

Inverters and 12v batteries are cheap and open up more equipment. You can also set them to trickle charge and turn on automatically when 240v is lost.

At some point though a generator is the bed solution. There are cheap ones for just in case or better ones...

The real acid test is are you worried about the food in your fridge? The answer to that question is a good gauge for fish.

Grab yourself a little generator, I've got a 4hp gen that comes out of the shed when the powers out, it's enough to keep most of the tanks going and only cost me $300 :)

In case the blackout happens when you are not there (ie at work) - use one of these (below) 24/7 on your bigger tanks (or multiple tanks) - the battery backup kicks in when the power goes out - aeration is the most critical - filtration is not so much in that time - when you get home, you can kick up the generator to run the filters.

Yeah I can't say much I'm in mount Lawley so the power doesn't go out to offer but when I does they take a while to fix it, but get a cheap generator they are the best! Or use solar charge it's basically solar power but it also stored the solar power then when the power goes out it kicks in and can run a house for up to a week!!!

i spent 700 dollars on a generator (with inverter of course so my equip doesn't blow up cause of spikes lol) just to run my fish room lol had power out on Saturday while working. explaining to the wife how to get it running was a painful conversation -.-

A few weeks ago i got some second hand batteries out of the UPS system at work. Bought a pure sine wave inverter and using a battery charger i had at home. Around $150 all in and should have at least a couple of days up my sleeve. i tested for 24 hours and the battery voltages were all still nice and high.

I am a fifo worker, so a few days is nice to have up my sleeve :)
