Hi there.

I am looking for some advice from you good people.

I have a 180L tank with an Aquis 1000 cannister filter.  Now the filter is rated at 1000LPH, but I believe this is at height 0, and no filter media.  Add hoses and filter media, and the flow is more like 500-600LPH.

Am I better off getting a bigger/better cannister filter, or introduce a redundant filter, maybe something like an Eheim Pickup 2012. This would also be handy should I need an emergency tank.

Or even other suggestions or brands I should look at.

Cheers.

TJ

Ive run an Aquis 1000 on a 220L tank with no problems at all. But i did add a lot more media to the baskets. I think these filters are rated for about 250L aquariums so as long as your maintenance is reasonable you will be fine with what you have. But I would definitely add some more bio media.

If you wanna spend some more money then add an extra filter or buy a bigger canister but you probably wont need to with a tank of that volume.

If you want an awesome internal filter buy a cheap powerhead or internal filter with the desired L/H and stick the powerhead on a sponge filter. Way cheaper and way more effective tyhan an Eheim Pickup or similar.

The aquis is a great filter! Rated for aquriums upto 200litres.. Should easily do the job. Aslong as the tank doesn't get heavily stocked.. A few sponge filters added to the mix would def help if u found it struggling long term. Jase
