started on the fish room last weekend.

heres the bench legs we made a few weeks ago

the first bench in

first tanks in and running


got hold of some foam so decided to insulate it, we used liquid nails to stick it on.


second bench assembled and ready to go

cut the top off of my six foot stand to make way for two three footers

second bench in and leveled

the modified six foot stand

one six footer up and running, i have a three foot tank each side of the six, updates soon

Looking good dude wise decision to put the foam in to insulate it makes a big difference in winter.

Looks great tho keep the pics coming of the work in progress.

yeah foam was a last minute decision but i am glad i did, you can feel the difference
im into my americans so mainly them for now

got alot done yesterday.

this is the final bench to go from the doorway, its just over 5ft long





made up a drain pipe on each side of the shed to syphon into, they run threw a hole in the back where our fruit trees will be



the floor needed some screeding so its nice and flat for the marine carpet



started insulating to roof


most of the tanks set up



a few happy customers, the red devils spawed on the first night of there new tank, the fry slowly started free swimming threw the day as we worked away

i bought left over foam from a mate who manufactures doors and used it as insulation, otherwise foam world in wangarra sells sheets that are 2400 x 1200 x 10mm for 9 dollars. thats where i got it for under my tanks. also may have some left over, if i do ill let ya know

Looks like a fantastic set-up you have there.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go for the single tier racks ?

I think you might regret not going for a 2 tier rack sooner or later.

I know it is your choice, but just curious all the same.

hey col

they actually are going to be two tier, as a work in progress i still need to sheet the bottom of the benches. it was a mad rush to get the top done as i wanted my tanks inside rather urgently with the colder weather coming in (every time i looked outside my heaters were running). between each post on the side benches i can fit 3fters and the bench in the middle at the back holds 2fters. eventually half the tanks on the top benches will be on the bottom shelf for fry or smaller cichlids ect and the tops will hold bigger tanks like 6fters ect

picked up a 5fter today to complete the top row of tanks, now to start on the bottom row.

i'd really like to know how you made you stands aswell if thats ok??

Hi DM,

I notice that the bottom shelves are not very high, will this be a problem when you come to siphon water from them ?

Please note...this is not a criticism of your design, just passing on you my experiences.

A few of my tanks are about the same height from the floor & I find it very annoying & frustrating getting the siphon to start.

Some of mine I can't change due to height restrictions, but I am going to build new stands for those I am able to.

BTW, you will not regret installing the poly. I do not have any heaters in my tanks, the only heat comes from the 2 large air pumps & 2 x 4ft flouro's. The temp varies from 23 to 26C, even in winter.

Keep up the good work, it's looking great.
