Yeah I agree with Az nice fish. But I would not recommend bloodworms or nls.

Come on, wouldn't feed it NLS, really. That's preposterous.

[attachment=17196:RIMG0023.JPG]They eat earthworms, mealworms and guppies, angels and any other unwanted fish that have been fed 55% food first, they also get beefheart and prawn. I have said all of this before elsewhere on this Forum
It's ok to say no bloodworm but thou shalt not hang sh.. on n.. we have already done this one
Here are some of my bichirs, I have 15 adults

I'd suggest swapping your substrate to sand, gravel can get caught in their digestive system leading to death.
I have two in a tank with eco complete substrate. I'm planning to swap to sand. Pretty sure one of them is suffering this at the moment.I hope it will pass the gravel.

Swapping the substrate isn't going to happen I just set the tank up so not stripping it now. It's gravel isn't large anyway.

Jurassic Fishes by a group of Japanese authors is a good read - that's if you can find it
It deals with prehistoric stuff like gars and birchirs.

Else monsterfishkeeper forum usually has some good discussion/information there

Birchir's are the best to watch to feed because they don't vaccum up all the food in one big gulp.
Watching it snap at a passing goldfish (sometimes takes a long time) - priceless. Prawns probably the best + whitebait.
Easily sourced and always readily available and cheap.
1kg prawns - $20 max
1kg massivore or carnivore - $100+! But the pellets are probably more nutritionally balanced and it's always better to feed a variety.

I spend my money on fish not cameras <== +1

He is going sweet mate I moved him to the shed to try get some size on him as he was getting a little bullied in the display tank. He smashes massivore pellets loves them. I just break them into smaller bits and all good. Have found him very easy to keep, want another one to put with him.

AQUALOG Polypterus by Frank Schafer has some beautiful pictures of different types of bichirs (you just need to find the one with some english translation)
it mainly has info on size under different pictures but has a tiny bit of info on the in general

@terry - not all of us can get our hands on these lil guys so we just have to stick to pictures T^T!
