The Perth Cichlid Society is proud to bring you

     A day with Ad Konings

                    and
    Juan Miguel Artigas Azas.

Ad Konings

Anyone with even a passing familiarity with African cichlids has likely heard the name Ad Konings.

Ad is a world renowned ichthyologist with a particular interest in the cichlids of Lakes Malawi and

Tanganyika. He has spent a good deal of his life, keeping, studying and documenting cichlids.

An accomplished diver and photographer, he has spent thousands of hours underwater in the Rift Lakes.

Some years ago, he started Cichlid Press, and has since has writtenand produced over 30 titles, including

most of the “go to” books on African cichlids.

Living in Texas, each year Ad travels vast distances. He has been on innumerable study and collecting

expeditions to African and South and Central American rivers and lakes. Also in heavy demand as a

speaker for Aquarist meetings and conventions, he travels from Europe to, well, Australia and all parts between.

Fresh from a trip to Lake Tanganyika, he is coming to talk to the Perth Cichlid Society.

Juan Miguel Artigas Asaz

Juan Miguel Artigas Azas is an aquarist from Mexico. Having kept cichlids for decades, his main interest

lies in Central American cichlids and Mexican fishes. Juan often travels to the natural habitats of the fish

he studies, photographing and observing them in their native environment He has over time developed a

deep understanding of their natural history and behavior.
On the web, he is the creator of The Cichlid Room Companion (cichlidae.com), and making use of his extensive

knowledge and experience he travels to many fish related conferences and delivers lectures on the subjects he

knows so well.

We have been lucky to be able to arrange for him to come and give a talk to the Perth Cichlid Society.

When is it?
Saturday February 28th, 2015 - Afternoon and early evening.

Where is it?

We are still working to finalise a venue, but will let you know as soon as it is settled.

How much are tickets?

Still to be determined and somewhat dependent on venue, but we will work to keep costs down for members. Will very likely include  dinner

It has been more than a decade since Ad Konings has come to Perth, and for Juan Miguel Artigas Azas it will be his first time here.
It is quite unlikely they will visit again soon, so be sure and keep that date free and we will give you more details as we can.

I went to see him a few years back in Melbourne. No matter how experienced or knowledgeable you are, you will leave learning something new. I know some people don't attend fish club meetings because "they have nothing to offer" or "no benefit because I don't learn anything". It will be money well spent

I'm looking forward to Juan and I hope the African hecklers shut up and try not to ruin it for everyone. Yes I'm bringing up the past but to all the people with smart ass comments and heckling from the Willem Heinz talk. Keep your disruptiveness to yourself.

Awesome opportunity to hear firsthand from such experts with hands-on experience with cichlids in the wild!

Really looking forward to this.  :)  :)  :)

Agreed

Also, it was really funny when Willem gave his thoughts on Malawi cichlids. "They are either blue or yellow...." That was hilarious. Top guy to speak to as well. I managed to have a good chat to him that night.

Glad I wasn't there then!
I would've told him he has no clue on Malawi's.
Yea the majority might be blue or yellow, but there is a lot of character, different body shapes etc etc.
Typical one eyed American keeper.

No he said his wife was happy for him to go overseas and I said it sounds like she is happier for you to go overseas then go in your own cichlidarium because the tanks kept exploding lol
The way he explained it sounded like she had less problem with him going overseas and catching the fish then going into the cichlidarium lol

If the tanks were constructed correctly they wouldn't have exploded. I was sitting next to Ollie, I think he was in shock when he saw how they got slapped together.

Yeah the separate panels. None the less, we got to see a photo of The back of Ad's head, so that was exciting.
I cracked up big time when Mr Green asked him if he had any photos of the back of other peoples heads ha ha that was awesome

I've never bothered much with American cichlids, but i really enjoy reading articles by Juan Miguel Artigas Azas

Will be a great night
