Parenting twins has become a much larger time commitment than I had ever imagined. So this project has been put on hold for a while

IoTank is my attempt at creating a smart, internet connected tank to automate and log tank activity.

This is going to take me a very long time but I will update this post as I go.

Tank Basics

The tank itself is a second hand 5ft that I've cleaned up and built a basic stand for. If anyone is interested in the stand design, let me know.

Next step

I'm currently designing a sump and eagerly awaiting my raspberry pi, relays, etc.

Hi all, I've been on this forum for a while now and have recently been getting a lot more serious about the hobby so I figure it's time to get to know the community. I'm currently focusing on haps and peacocks with a few of the more peaceful mbunu and am in the process of building a new display tank.
I'm hugely interested in creating smart solutions to common problems to save time and ensure the well-being of my Cichlids. In my latest tank I'm working to automate as much as possible and have it connected to the internet for control from anywhere and emergency alerts. I'll make a seperate post for anyone interested in following the project.
With my 2 month old twin daughters, Im unlikely to make it to any meetings or auctions for a while but nonetheless, a massive hello to everyone :D

#345362 Aquaponics Experiment Surprise

Posted by mashjprime on 07 October 2015 - 01:50 PM

Hey guys, I've been experimenting with aquaponics in the last month or so since the temperature's risen. The current setup is running off a tropical tank and a sump full of yabbies and to my surprise hasn't failed miserably. I've got smaller hardier fish in the tropical tank; danios, tetras, etc as well as some plants and mussels. I was absolutely blown away this morning to find fry in my bottom tank that had obviously made their way through the stand pipe and expanded clay so I thought I would share it with everyone.. The cameras not good enough to show fry but you get the point :)
