Here are our tanks. We have a 6x2x2 in the lounge and a new addition of a 3x1.5x2 in the bedroom. We live in a villa so unless i can convince her to let us have a tank in the bathroom, i'm afraid this will be the limit.

The 6x2x2

Filtration - 2 x eheim 2028

Lighting - 6ft T5 blue and a 5ft T8 white

Substrate - Sand

Stocking - a little bit of everything

Objective - To create something fairly low maintenance with lots of activity for the living area

Future plans - To reduce the stock and have just a colony of Synodontis Multipunctatus and a host colony. Rockwork to be rearranged again. Not sure i'll ever be happy with it.

The 3x1.5x2

Filtration - eheim 2228

Lighting - 3ft t5 double unit

Heating - eheim Jager set to 31c

Stocking - 14 rummy nose tetra, 11 cardinal tetra, 1 blue ram, 2 wild blue discus

Substrate - silica sand

Objective - To create something peaceful for the bedroom

Future plans - 4 more wild discus, preferably green or red.

Beautiful Tank! One of the nicest African cichlid aquariums I have seen!

Love the rock work.

After sourcing a eheim 2228 the tank is now being filled with water. I was tempted to seed the filter with bacteria from one of the eheims on the 6x2x2 but decided against it as there are snails in that aquarium(not many thanks to the clownloach). One problem i have encountered is the serious amount of flow (discus would do backflips), when i got the filter home i noticed it only had one basket of bio media and no sponges, i am hoping if i load it right up and stick some poly matting in there it should be enough to slow the flow down.

Next up is deciding on a lighting unit this week followed by some sand and driftwood at the weekend and kidnapping a resident of the 6x2x2 to cycle it.

sorry for the not so exciting updates

Excited to see how the 3x1.5 goes! As I have the same size tank that I will set up soon with discus!

For lighting I am going to use an ATI Sunpower 4x39 Watt with 2 Sylvania and 2 giesemann bulbs. Just depends on how much you want to spend!

As i'm not planning on adding any plants….not a lot! I've heard good reviews about this unit in regards to bang for buck http://www.ebay.com....dbb84933&_uhb=1

Ah right! Sorry I thought you were making it planted.

With the white sand, some driftwood pieces with java moss attached would look mint!
I have one of those LEDs on a 4 foot Cichlid tank, great unit and my friend is successfully growing some plants under them in his 2 foot!

Update on the 3x1.5x2:

Sand is in and now has a double T5 unit above it. Also added the first of the stock. 5 rummy nose tetras and 1 male german ram (unfortunately Vebas had no females so for now he's riding solo. I've pretty much decided on this as a stocking list:

15 Rummy nose Tetras

2 German Rams

6 Panda Corys

6 Silver Hatchets

6 Discus (Juveniles)

After filling the filter with media it's still got way too much flow so i've stuck a bit of filter sponge on the out take to redirect the flow. I'm still looking for a solution to this issue.

Next on the list is Peat, driftwood, rocks and some more rummy nose. Attached File  1618430_10151965793582016_1231087632_n.jpg   34.16KB   7 downloads Attached File  485541_10151965793647016_1818760033_n.jpg   32.33KB   8 downloads

coming along nicely. it that play sand? just my opinion but i wouldn't have a pair of german rams in a tank that size. they can *sometimes* become a pain when they start breeding as they tend to get pretty aggressive.i know everyone have various opinions on this but i've had issues with a pair in a 4ft tank to the point i had to get rid of them. not saying it wont work for you but maybe keep this in mind.

It's silica sand. i hear what your saying and i'll keep an eye on them, goes without saying that if they become an issue they will be removed from the tank. I actually got them because they were recommended on so many sites as good tankmates for discus.

I'm swaying towards wilds at the moment so i'd say a ram wouldn't stand a chance up against a 12cm wild :)

Add a wide outlet to the out flow to disperse the water flow more, it won't reduce the flow but it will be a little more gentler. Something like a duck bill outlet.

Funny you should say that i actually switched one of the spray bars from 2028's the 6x2x2 with the 2228 on the 3x1.5x2 which has chilled the flow out a bit. Have also added some driftwood which has redirected the flow.

Also added 5 more rummy nose and 8 cardinals.

excuse the crappy phone pictures. Will get the SLR out when the discus go in and get some proper pics.Attached File  10177283_10151973398992016_7050730351145322703_n.jpg   22.01KB   6 downloads

That male ram is stunning!

Tank is looking very nice. Where did you get the driftwood from if you don't mind me asking?

IMO it would look great if you got some decent size river stones and placed them around the bases of the driftwood pieces.

Driftwood came from Vebas. I'm with you on the river stones, also planning to silicone some thin pieces of wood from the centre brace to hang down and maybe reposition the larger pieces.

two wild blues have just gone in so going to leave any aquascaping for a few weeks whilst they fully settle in. They are going well and already begging for food when i approach the tank.

Will get some proper photos up soon
