I have just shut down my marine tank (because everything died etc. dont want to go into) but I want to set up the tank as fresh water the only problem it smells and I just cant get some of that super hard algae off need help!

Use a blade to clean off the algae and hard calcium. I get them from Bunnings

And you can use white vinegar to clean the glass and should help with the smell.

Also as long as you get most of the salt off it's ok but some of it might be to hard, just fill it with fresh water and it'll slowly dissolve. As long as it's not lots a little salt won't hurt your fresh water fish.
