#350223 Seneye Reef

Posted by Delapool on 04 March 2016 - 09:16 PM

Lowered the light onto the tank top (about 10cm) and I'm picking up an extra 20% PAR reading. Much less reflected light I assume.

The spread of the light is not as good though unfortunately.

I've got to say Seneye support are fantastic. Second time I've contacted them and got an answer over night.

Their reply was either a soft cloth for green algae or there is a Seneye cleaner if mineral deposits are building up on it.

Woo hoo! USB power adaptor turned up. Meter is in tank with a test slide nicely sitting half way down the tank.

Hopefully have readings tonight or tomorrow. From memory it takes a reading every hour.

The darn USB connection dropped into the tank water so got that drying off.

Still no USB power adapter in post (sigh - guess it's character building). Oh well.

Yeah, saw it today. Not the best.
Mind you I think my kids would walk home rather than go into another fish shop sometimes.

I just clean mine under the hose (rotating though three filters for cleans). I don't know on the washing machine.

Craig.

#349130 Sterilising A Canister Filter?

Posted by Delapool on 28 January 2016 - 04:31 PM

No the tank was running for a month, but I'm not talking any chances

So it wasn't touching the silicon for a month? Just curious as can't figure out how that would all work. I would think if it was an issue you would get an initial release which would reduce with time OR something changed in the canister somehow.

Craig.

Interesting question. I know copper can be absorbed by carbonates but have never kept SW tanks.

In a canister filter I've never heard of problems with chemicals absorbed/leaching out.

The ones I've heard of are where buckets get mixed up between laundry / aquarium. Same for rubber hoses.

Craig.

Having nothing better to do I've been trying out the chart functions with the lights next to the desktop computer. The charting seems to freeze sometimes but was fairly quick to setup and getting some results (of something anyways).

You can show the plant light preference (thick, coloured line) and what the human eye can see (dashed, coloured line). The light spectrum reading is the white/grey line. The unit is much cheaper than the apogee MQ200 par meter but for comparing lights and bulb decay hopefully it works ok.

I picked up the Seneye Reef for the light meter and thought to share some pics. Unfortunately I'm having trouble getting a power source for it (on order with third company) and have a desktop, not a laptop. This is because the meter has a USB cable connection so either need a laptop (no cost), a usb power adapter (pretty cheap) or a wifi power adapter (costs as much as the unit itself).

The light meter tests for PAR, lux and Kelvin. The unit also tests for temperature, ammonia and ph. For ammonia and ph you have to buy slides so I spent a bit extra on a few things to try out.

#348883 Tank Still Running With No Fish

Posted by Delapool on 21 January 2016 - 10:40 PM

I've seen similar articles of the bacteria surviving for months and practically have restarted my sisters tank after it was empty for several months with no issues. She has done that as well.

Buuut - stocking did start off small and I've wondered if the bacteria are quick or slow to get going again.

My idle suspicion is a fully stocked tank my be a bit of stress but I'd be interested how this one goes.

Craig.
