If you can rear the fry let me know, I been through 3 batches now, keep em for 3-4 max days then they all fade away.
with thte next lot of eggs im gonna start to hatch brine shrimp again and try again.
Juvies are 35-50 bucks each, which is cheap considering what the fish is id say.

Fair enough mate, well done.

I think a lot of the price comes from the apparent difficulties in raising the fry.

I also have what looks like a pair at 20 - 25cm, male is getting a nice red hump. Not really sure I'd be bothered to raise any fry if they did spawn.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Alex

Nothing like convicts.

Cannibalistic and live food requirements. A nano planted tank would be a terrible option in my opinion.

Good luck. I have a trio I'd love to breed. Bit unfortunately I have a full time job that I enjoy and I'm not about to give that up to raise some fry haha.

Pretty much a full time job raising those suckers! That's what justifies their price.

A nano tank is generally under 30 or so liters.

A tank this small would fowl very quickly with a large swarm of hungry pbass, having to feed them all the time = a lot of waste. This species is very temperamental at a young age, and thus will not tolerate less than perfect water.

You seem like a young fella interested in fish, which is great. However, I think you have seriously underestimated the needs of this species. You still have many hours of research and question asking ahead of you before you are properly prepared for the task,.

Again, best of luck.

Not much difference between a 5x2x2 and a 6x2x2. Instead of having to get bigger tanks all the time you might as well get one that's big enough for them from the start. A 6x 2or2.5 x3 or a 8 footer would do the trick, minimum IMO.
