Sweet!

I think my basic questions will be covered anyway, but here goes:

- minimum setup cost
- maintenance required
- running cost
- can hard water be used

I think I'll have to add this one to the calender.

1. Lighting conditions
2. Additional supplements
3. Optium depth of plant growing boxes
4. Composition of substrate in plant growing boxes
5. Local Aquaponic specialist shops
6. Suitable plants for Aquaponics, are they still governed by seasonal conditions like vegetables we plant in the ground?
7. Popular eating fish to use in an Aquaponics setup that are suitable for Perth conditions

Hey Jason, as with all monthly talks this one will be available to club members afterwards via the library and streaming, it always depends on the permission of the speaker though.

I'd like to know about -

  • Cost effective heating options
  • Fish stocking levels
  • What types of filtration is required (other than plant beds)?
  • Does timed starting/stopping of pumps have an effect on ammonia levels?
  • pH levels affected from water running through plants and media filled beds?

Might have to make it out for this one, Have been keen on setting up this on a small scale for ages.

Have had a bit a read of the backyard aquaponics forum,

Would like to know how the pumps handle being turned on and off so frequently, Does this shorten their life span?
Is there any advantage/disadvantage to flooding the grow bed every 10min vs every 30min just for eg.

I can't make it, but could somebody please find out if there's any way to quieten down the systems a bit? My upstairs neighbours might go mad from water returning to a fish tank outside smile.gif

leave it until he complains!
place something under it?
aim the return at the side of the tank so it runs down the glass.
mail them some earplugs.

This talk will be good, setting up an AP system in a few weeks, trout ordered for june!

Hey Ivan

No count. We average 20 - 40 people depending on the speaker / topic.

Agreed. Talk was very informative, Faye definitely knows her Aquaponics and you can tell how passionate she is about it which is great to see. Once my shed is done I'd like to get one of these setups going.

Thanks to all that made it, somewhere between 25-30 people which is a very good turnout.

Rrrrighto. In about 5 years time then.
Will your aquaponics setup also be miniature? tongue.gif
