I picked up a bag of these as teabags and directions are replace weekly. I've got one in the betta tank and so far can't tell if it is doing anything. Does the water change colour with using them?

Indian almond leaves will release tannins, which give the water a yellow-brown tint. If you don't like the colour, you can run carbon on the tank and the tannins will disappear. Tannins are actually beneficial for fish and even encourage breeding in some fish, eg bettas.

Good question. I'd never seen them in stores but hadn't really been looking. Got these on the raffle table last month. Maybe one of the sponsor stores will know?

That's what I thought but not noticing much colour change? Maybe a slight tinge. Will have a proper look tonight.

Yep, the tannins will disappear, as will ALL other organics from the leaves. So why use them if you don't want the colour?

Syd.

They are available in some stores. Those particular ones off the raffle table came from The Tech Den.

Pretty nice idea as a tea-bag. Very convenient.

They are good. The dont make as much leaf litter. So i used them in my Discus tank. i used actual IAL in my Apistogramma tanks as the leaf litter is great.

It says change 1 per week but TBH they last a few weeks each depending on how big water changes are.

I use them in shrimp tanks. The shrimp love them. They will be eaten over time and you are just left with the leaf skeleton. You really have to put quite a few in the tank if you want to drop the ph of the water and put a lot of tannin into the tank. I know they have or had them at Aquotix. I bought a bulk pack from tech den if you more bang for your buck.

I use to buy them from him. Pretty good prices too. If anyone is thinking of doing an order, let me know I may be interested in getting in some as well.
