Lowered the light onto the tank top (about 10cm) and I'm picking up an extra 20% PAR reading. Much less reflected light I assume.
The spread of the light is not as good though unfortunately.

So it wasn't touching the silicon for a month? Just curious as can't figure out how that would all work. I would think if it was an issue you would get an initial release which would reduce with time OR something changed in the canister somehow.

Craig. No the tank was running for a month, but I'm not talking any chances

Having nothing better to do I've been trying out the chart functions with the lights next to the desktop computer. The charting seems to freeze sometimes but was fairly quick to setup and getting some results (of something anyways).
You can show the plant light preference (thick, coloured line) and what the human eye can see (dashed, coloured line). The light spectrum reading is the white/grey line. The unit is much cheaper than the apogee MQ200 par meter but for comparing lights and bulb decay hopefully it works ok.

I picked up the Seneye Reef for the light meter and thought to share some pics. Unfortunately I'm having trouble getting a power source for it (on order with third company) and have a desktop, not a laptop. This is because the meter has a USB cable connection so either need a laptop (no cost), a usb power adapter (pretty cheap) or a wifi power adapter (costs as much as the unit itself).
The light meter tests for PAR, lux and Kelvin. The unit also tests for temperature, ammonia and ph. For ammonia and ph you have to buy slides so I spent a bit extra on a few things to try out.
