Ahhh the time has come my friends, after 2 years of saying Im going to do a marine tank I finally started setting up my first marine tank last weekend, cheers Jules for parting with your nano tank that you very much regret trading to me haha I probably would of still put this off for another 2 years if you didn't have it up for grabs !

Here is my current setup:
Aqua One Nano 40 (40cm cube / 55 litres with built in weir at the back)
Eco Lamp KR Nano LED Lighting
Aqua One Nano Skim 80 Protein Skimmer
Eheim 900lph Return Pump
Aqua One 150w Heater
Aragonite Sand (10kg)
And just got a pouch of carbon, phos-zorb and purigen in the middle section of the weir with a sponge ontop of it all

Tank has been running for 7 days now and has already cycled, I bought 3.6kg of very good quality live rock from Ocean Reefs which did the trick. This is my first time playing with a marine tank so Im all ears for any pointers that will help me down the track to avoid rookie mistakes.

I'm not familiar with the names of many corals so wouldn't be able to tell you what I want to stock it with, but the only fish that will be going in the tank is 2 occelaris clownfish, just want to load the live rock with heaps of corals and have a nice looking anemone in there for the clownfish and I'll be happy.

I will update the thread every week or so as I go along adding new bits and piece to the tank, this weekend coming up I will be adding my first coral if water conditions stay up to scratch, can't wait ! Spent about 2 hours staring at live rock when I first got haha

Cheers, Tom

raddddddddd!!!

I want a nano tank now, man if I don't find a female sen ill do a marine nano.

aren't you going to use that tunze nano stream pump as well for extra flow?

marine tanks should turn over 20-30 times an hour - replicating the ocean as much as you can.

My pointer, take it nice and slowly... 7 days to cycle to get to clear water yes, but you still have to have all the bacteria to grow and die etc.

It took me 3 months to put my clowns in, basically each week I added another little coral or a snail in.

Great to see more marine tanks on the forums!

Remember, every good thread needs plenty of pics! :)

Patients is a huge part on nano marines, I failed at mine cos l rushed it.. Defiantly take it slow, a small volume of water can change and crash pretty fast.

Looks mint tho mate, good luck with it

As other said, best to wait another month at least before adding livestock (despite having cycled).

For clown fish, I'd recommend a cover of some sort. They jump!

Yeah, in my opinion, the only way to have a tank cycling in a week is using another tanks existing filter, sand, etc.

I think live rock does an awesome job of clearing water, but you still need to bacteria to grow in the filter media, bacteria to grow in the sand, protien skimmer to get moving, there's so much more.
