Upcoming Pcs Event: Ad Konings And Juan Miguel Artigas Asaz

Well done everyone on the committee for making this happen. I hope everyone supports the club by attending - this is not an easy or cheap feat to pull off for the PCS.
And yes I agree all speakers deserve respect and nobody should be making any smartass comments - it only takes something small to piss people off and they will never agree to visit again.

One thing I would like to ask Ad Konings is why his latest books are only available through iTunes? I don't like reading books on a computer screen. Yes it's cool to get videos included in the purchase, but I would much rather a physical book to read and the ability to log in to a secure website to view the videos if I want to see them
Books are called:
Featherfins in Their Natural Habitat
The Cichlids of Lake Malawi National Park

I would assume it's because there's a huge push away from books and printed media. People like to read things on screens. Not me, I'm like you and I prefer my books.
I hope he asks me this time around what I would like him to write on my book when I get him to sign it. I flew to the other side of the country for a "Thanks for coming to this meeting". He started writing before I could tell him to make it out to me.. I can't believe that was in 2008, where the hell has the time gone?

As I understand it, it's a big undertaking printing a book. You have to commit to a print run, and the larger the run is, the cheaper the unit price is per book but the more you are on the hook for.
If not enough people buy it, you might lose money.
Digital costs nothing to reproduce, so after the initial copy it's all gravy. I sympathise with your POV even though I am trying to reduce the number of books on my shelves even further. Books are nice to read.
This will all be solved in the near future IMO, when you will be able to have a book printed and bound while you wait, obviating the need for print runs of thousands.

I have to keep pinching myself, I cant believe this guy is finally coming to Perth.
Even if your not a African fan you would come away with so much more information.
Its going to be a fantastic day... Been waiting many years for this.

If everything goes right I should be in Perth that day so if there is a possibility for me i'd love to join you all. Both of them are amazing.
Are they having a conference/speech?
