Fished at a local lake I had scoped out earlier that had feral koi/carp in there.
Came up with these

I have seen the local residence feeding these things like pets so I had to do a covert mission at night tongue.gif

Thanks for the heads up smile.gif
Next one caught is a dead fish.
Don't think these things can go anywhere unless they grow legs and walk down to the river

Caught them on my bream combo 2-4kg rod on a daiwa procaster 2000 spooled with 6lb braid.
The rig was simple running sinker to a small hook baited with bread, just burley up first.

Pretty sure whe I first spotted them it did look like they were spawning in the shallows.

They put up a great fight the second one was jumping out of the water, they dont come in easy I have to play them a while before I can scoop them up. Great fun biggrin.gif

They can put up a great fight, when I was a kid my dad would take me carp fishing in the creeks around Sydney, he caught monsters 20kg+ the scientists and farmers at the time were blaming the carp for silting the rivers, but later they found out it was the livestock and tree felling that eroded the banks and caused all the siltation, the carp was not guilty, by the time the carp establised itself the natural habitat was already damaged by farming which allowed the carp to finally establish themselves after many attempts by fishing clubs backed by the government to introduce the carp.

I will never forget one day as a child we were walking up a river on a hot summers day that was muddy and silted up, I can remember all the cow hoof prints surrounding the muddy banks along the river that had been cleared and destroyed by the farmers, and hundreds of fish, including massive carp all gasping at the surface starving for oxygen, I was too young to know what was happening then, but later I understood the terrible damage the farmers had done to our natural waterways.

IMO most of the suburban lakes around Perth that hold decent water over summer would have these bad boys lurking. (not all quite as large as MONSTAFISHes cathces!) I've seen some massive dead ones in Jackadder in Woodlands, plenty of medium sized koi in Yanchep park (can't catch those!) and very recently I saw the two biggest koi ever (EVER!) in a small northern suburbs lake. These were freaking massive. I'll try upload the footage i took of them swimming below a duck that gives good comparison. (how do I shrink digital camera movie footage to put on here?) They get enormous from gorging themselves on sunken bread from duck feeders hence it's their bait of choice.

Regards Pat

Make an account on youtube or photobucket and upload to there first.

Tell us the lake Pat... smile.gif

I know there are some monster ones in lake Monger also I've heard there are redfin perch in there too although I have never seen them.
