The next meeting of the Perth Cichlid Society is on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016.

Ever wanted some awesome large or oddball fish? Did you know some fish have paired lungs and can breathe air? Want to learn more about the incredibly interesting Bichir? Our resident Bichir fish fanatic Androo will deliver a short fascinating talk on the Bichir and there husbandry in the fish hobby.

Maybe you're looking to grow awesome produce at home and still work in some fish keeping. Ever thought about doing some Aquaponics at home? You get to love and keep fish and supply beautiful plants or water features for your home, or even supply produce for your table. Home aquaponics owner Brett will deliver a short talk on aquaponics and how you can get started or expand your very own system.

This month's topics are The Amazing Bichir & Home Aquaponics.  

 

We will be delivering 2 small talks this month at PCS meeting.

 

Learn about the Bichir with this great talk from local Bichir fanatic Androo. He will show you the amazing world of this ancient fish. There are loads of facinating facts and pictures of this awesome aquarium species.

 

We will also have a great talk on Home Aquaponics from in house aquaponics owner Brett. He will show you that you can set up and run your very own system and enjoy fabulous fish keeping and be rewarded with a water feature and produce or your own.

  • We will have an announcement on our 2016 PCS Aquascaping competitions with HUGE prizes to be won in different categories.

 

  • There will be an update on the clubs progress with Stuart Grant Fund for Cichlid Preservation. Your donations and involvement is helping this great cause preserve the fish in our hobby and the wonderful rift lakes.

 

  • March 2016 Photo Comp winners will be announced and prizes handed out for our lucky winners from our new PCS Sponsors - Tropical.

 

  • Grab some raffle tickets for our Sponsor prize table full of awesome aquarium hobby items. Loads of prizes to win!! Don't forget 20% of raffle goes towards the Cichlid Preservation Fund.

 

  • Why not enter our April PCS Showtable competition. Bring a cichlid or catfish down to the meeting and you could win cash vouchers to spend at our local sponsor stores from Pet Magic. **Small tanks are available at the venue if you PM organiser 'Rovik' on our forums at least a day before you come down. Feel free to bring you own tank and air, but no other items are permitted in tank for judging. EVERY ENTRY WINS A VOUCHER!

 

  • The PCS Library will be open where you can borrow books, magazines and DVDs of all kinds of cichlid topics.

 

  • In the kitchen we will have sausage sizzle and drinks available for you. Come grab a serve! Don't forget 20% of kitchen purchases goes towards the Cichlid Preservation Fund.

Great night. Thanks heaps for the presentations - very nicely done and interesting.

Also picked up a claw grabber thingy (should be good for plants), a water siphon (excellent as broke one on weekend for small tanks) and an extra heater for winter (I'll probably pinch that for me :) )

I thought it was a good night. Talks were down to earth and good quality. The raffle table had almost $500 of goods on it, so lots of winners.

 

Well done Bailey who cleaned up and got the members prize. B)

Hi Bailey .... thankyou for taking the heat off me for winning raffles.. it is all on you now  .Well done happy that you had a good win . the talks were very informative and appreciated

 

Just a bit of a shame the turn out wasn't that great .. but those of us that were there enjoyed the evening

Thanks to the speakers and sponsors. I learned a heap and now know who to go to for advice on my Aquaponics setup.

Well done Bailey, I do need to get some tips from you on the lucky draw. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone else. I did however manage some luck with one of the last tickets drawn and still was able to get some fish food. Brilliant.
