Hey I think he/her might be talking about a Royal Pleco. just the kind of fish that would be mistaked as a "false zebra pleco", even though it is a quality fish.

thanks

Heya

Hypancistrus Zebra (Zebra Pleco) is known as L046 / L173 (which is the common form) BUT there is a variation L098 which has broken lines and is much less common to the hobby (as you can imagine.)

These are called False Zebra Pleco's in Europe (I have seen them there recently.)

Aside from this very similar variation, there are other H. zebra's namely Hypancistrus Sp. which have yet to be described (L066, L129, L174, L199, L236, L270 (which is the Chocolate Zebra), L316, L333 and L334 - to name a few...

These could all be called the "false zebra pleco" in a shop or by an enthusiast.

Most Peckoltia's could even be confused - heck the Hypancistrus zeb's (as were H. all) were known as Peckoltia for a long time. While we are still guessing, size-wise this would fit.

I think a little more information is called for. If there are two or more, it may be worth purchasing. If you're not in Australia, then I would choose something with a little more allure.

If, like me you are in Australia, then buy what ever you can get your hands on as long as the fish are quality.

Regards
BT
