Hey all,

In my 300L tank I have a pair of GTs they are both around 10cm. I was wondering how large do Green terrors have to be to breed? The female is guarding a limestone cave and the male keeps going to the entrance of her cave and flicking his fins and vibrating his whole body. Is this just aggression because they are still small fish or do you think this is breeding behavior?

Cheers

Mine started breeding at 8-10 cm so they may just be maturing now might not be long. :). Good luck

Yep sounds like the start of the breeding behaviour. Nice work. Great looking fish and awesome parents.

I had some a few years back that bred at around 10-12cm.

Are they Gold's or White's?

Thanks for the replies. Sadly the female JD ate all the fry but they look like they will be breeding very soon. (Going around in circles together and gently nudging eachother with their mouth)

They are the gold tail ones.

Here is a quick photo of the male GT.

Cheers Az I love Green Terrors. Sadly, he's not getting on too well with my Jack Dempsey male because I sold my oscars which were the boss of the tank so I guess they are battling to be at the top of the food chain. They locked jaws for a good 5 minutes yesterday but they have sorted eachother out now, they are both unharmed and have their own territories which they seem to stay in.

Green terror doing his vibrating thing again in front of the female which is cool to watch, although I don't think the female is ready to breed yet and the male bosses her around from time to time.

Nah, I bred mine at 7-8cm in a 2 foot tank, now they are in a 3x18"x18" and once I remove the fry after a few weeks they go again. My female ate her first spawn too, give them time and they'll get the hang of it mate

Thanks Shane, there is also a pair of Firemouths, I might separate the tank into 2 2 foots and have the Firemouths and jack dempseys in one and the GTs in the other because the green terrors are much more aggressive than the FMS and the JDs.

Yeah best to keep the breeding pairs seperate, although my first gt spawn in the 2 foot while 3 keyholes were in there and they didn't really bother each other. Jack dempseys are just as aggressive when breeding, my male killed my female :(. Haven't bred firemouths before but I'd assume they'd do a little less damage to each other than gts or jds

So the female has her egg laying tube out and they are both fiercely protecting a small cave.

I'll keep you all updated :)

The female is now going around the tank and still begging for food, I am doing a water change today so maybe that will trigger them to spawn :)
