I'm looking around to see what is out there in terms of LED lighting for large tanks. I'm looking to eventually replace my 6ft light that sits on my 8 ft tank.

I could go single 6ft again or two lights - it seems that two lights is the cheaper option so far.

What's the best bang for the buck and looks good? I've been using Sylvania Aquastar T8 tubes.

I run 2 x 5 foot ista led lights on my tank. Would post some photos but I'm away at the moment. You're welcome to swing past and have a look at how they look o my tank when I get back. Pretty cheap too.

I'm probably looking more on the planted side but would definitely get dimmable if any possible algae issues and pricing was about the same.

I still like bulbs but would go LED for an ordinary tank.

Thanks for the replies.

Delapool: Yeah I have no issue with my current lighting, but I figure next time the bulbs go I'll upgrade to something more modern. The models I looked at all seem to be dimmable. I like that on some you can vary the colour spectrum.

Westie: I saw the ISTA lights, only in the box though not on display, Let me know when you're back please, I wouldn't mind seeing them in action, the pricing for them is quite good too. PM is best.

I find that LED are the best. They are fairly cheap and you can buy a cheap inline dimmer off eBay. I use them on two of my tanks. Makes a big difference in the algae stakes as Delapool said.

That's a great idea! Don't suppose you would have a link? Got an old box hydroponics light.

Those are the ones that I use. I have one on a 6 ft light and it works well.
