#300238 Richro Natural Sand To Soil

Posted by scarab on 17 November 2013 - 02:53 AM

my knowledge on DIY substrates is very limited so I cant help much.

I only wanted to suggest using less peat. I'm not too sure what is recommended, however my main concern is that large amount of organic matter under a layer of sand can cause anaerobic pockets to develop as the organic matter breaks down and start producing hydrogen sulphide.

#271926 Crinum Calamistratum Flower And Seed

Posted by scarab on 20 December 2012 - 12:13 AM

Hi guys, I posted this on another forum but I thought I ought to share it here as well as some of you might have this plant and it could flower as well.

The plant is the one with the crinkled leaves. So on the 21/10/12, I noticed a flower stalk.

On the 19/10/12, the stalk reached the surface and bloomed. The flower lasts for approximately 3 days before wilting.

What I did was to brush the make part of the flower (stamen) onto the female part (stigma). As both portions were flexible and long, I was able to do that without damaging the flower.

On the 15/11/12, the base of the flower stalk begins to swell up, indicating that pollination has occurred and the fruit is developing

On the 14/12/12, the fruit dropped. Since it dropped, the fruit is definitely ripen and seeds developed. It took approximately a month for that to happen.

So I took the fruit out and opened it. There were two seeds in there and both were already germinating.
