I've been chasing them for about 2 years. A real buzz to finally have a couple.

They are about 15 - 20mm.

Yup, great fun... just gotta fight off the mozzies.

Didnt find many Gambusia. I wonder if it's the presence of nightfish keeping them under control.

Yep great fun! Could be the nightfish doing the job, could be other predators in there too maybe?

Maybe. I'm going to be spending some more time there so hope to get a better idea of what is there. Some interesting waterways not far from Perth if you look hard enough.

i found the nightfish in proper fresh water and surprisingly found heaps of gobies too. I  didn't expect to see them at all.

It's plundering a body of water that contains native (or non native) fish using a variety of tools. Net, waders, blunderbuss etc.

A few pics of the nightfish:

Since going in the tank they have been quite reclusive. However, the last couple of nights they have ventured out with no apparent concern. They smash live black worms.

I have been concerned that they would not adjust to captive life very well. That is certainly the reputation these fish have. After seeing them eating and venturing out so freely though I'm a bit more hopeful that they can make it as aquarium fish.

There is so much "Murray Cod" about these fish except they don't appear to have the same non stop aggression that even little cod have.

Lei's on live fish for $99. Live fish are good and always provide healthy fish but Saratoga are a bit fragile under 8cm. Do your research if you're thinking about it.

Found a couple of photos which interested me on aquariumlife. An eel tail which the person referred to as a Neosilurus Ater.

In this photo, (supposed Neosilurus on the left) it could be ID'd as a tandanus due to the tail fin which goes up the back of the fish, unlike a Neo's which only goes a tiny bit past the tail end.

Now in this photo, with the eel tails head in the left of the shot it looks identical to my Neo's head.

I've seen some other Neo's that are weird like this. My first one had a tandanus looking bulky head too.

What the heck?

so the first pic is from a couple of weeks ago when they first spawned but he swallowed the eggs soon after.

the second pic is from this morning but he wouldn't get in position to get a photo into his mouth - they are in there though - now i have to figure out a way to stop the other fish in the tank harassing him and causing him to swallow them
