New member here so id like to firstly say Hi.

I'm currently converting my shed into a fish room as my house simply doesn't have the space.

Spent the last two weeks on and off around work and 4 kids and this is the progress so far.

Still got the power to be terminated, plastering/painting, air con to be installed and flooring to be sealed and then I can move in the racks approximate tank count 31 not including the planned 6x 6ft tanks.

Going to be a busy month.

I messed up the roof because i have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to building anything  so i have to add external support beams now because my 4x2 spacing was to great and i don't want to run the risk of the gyprock sagging or falling down.. Live and learn i guess.

Lol - Bunnings have another truck on the way :) I really admire sumps. They look like so much work to set up but seem worth it.

Power is in, added more support to the roof and plastered.

Sprayed one of the QT racks.

I'm guessing those racks are steel? If so- did u make them yourself or got someone else to do it?

Yeah 40mm steel tubes. I got these from a shop that closed down.

I'll be making some 6ft 3 tier ones once i finish the room.

Hi Kurt,
Looking good. I will be converting my shed next year & looking for info/experiences regarding cheapest heating/cooling.

Few questions: any insulation behind the plaster walls/roof?
From my research 100mm HD foam works the best, not sure where to buy it, Clark rubber maby.

Are you going reverse cycle? If so, which brand/model. Research says 1.5hp Eco Riannai for 10x6m room.
Heating the room or just sumps/tanks?

Thanks :)

Biggest thing i can advise is plan. I whacked this up in 2 weeks with no planning what so ever so it cost me more in materials etc as i mostly over estimated, not by much but it all adds up in the end.

Regarding insulation i went with Ametalin Thermalbrane sheets on the ceiling and then R4 earthwool insulation and 10mm gyprock. Walls i think are a R2.

I haven't chosen a reverse cycle yet but that's what will be heating the room in the long run. I will have a few sumps running in the beginning but ultimately id rather have majority of the tanks running independent.

Hope this helps.

Sanded and painted the room. Sprayed some more racks and put together a QT rack with one more to go.

Keep the updates flowing, I'm enjoy a bit of fishroom Voyeurism.
Would you be interested in putting a few solar panels on the roof? I'm trialing a 100w dc system, yet to get battery's but I can pump 1000l/hr 2m high then gravity drain back to sump for about 6hours per day atm. With a battery hooked up I can do this 24/7. I think solar sheds are the way to go especially for fish rooms.
Kurt, I'm living in Erskine now so if you need a hand with anything give me a hoot.

Ps I could loan you a panel to trial if you like.

Appreciate the offer 😄 solar is definitely something id consider. Still ways off adding water - progress feels like it has stalled abit.

Managed to prep another rack section this afternoon.
